HIPSTER RUNOFF

Toro Y Moi plays the Sydney Opera House

Posted: 03 Mar 2011 04:04 PM PST

Australia is a land down under with massive indie markets because in Australia, indie and electro are basically mainstream. Anyways, I just saw this picture of Toro Y Moi in Australia, standing in front of what seems to be the Sydney Opera House, one of the most famousest venues in the world for live music 2 be performed, as well as existing as one of the greatest architectural marvels of the 1990s (but now every1 is in2 that Bird's Nest thingy in China).

U gotta imagine that because indie is so huge in Australia AND because the Sydney Opera House is the #1 music venue in the city, that Toro Y Moi crushed it at a show there. Props to Chaz 4 selling out Sydney, and props 2 Australia: a land where indie alt electro is mainstream Top 40.

Is Australia the indie-est country in the world?
Do Australians overvalue American buzzbands because of an inferiority complex?
Is Cut Copy the only great indie band from Australia?
Are Australians naturally 'alt'?
Do u think England ever wishes that they didn't send all of their most alternative ppl to live in Australia?
Can any1 find footage/pictures of ToraMwah inside of the Opera House playing their 'gig'?

VIDEO: Bradford Cox gives insane, emo, angry interview. Worried abt him...

Bradford Cox of Deerhunter and Atlas Sound sat down with some dude with an accent at a radio station and gave an very emo, angsty, angry, pissed off interview where he basically 'let out all of his emotions', and came across as a man who gets no joy out of life any more. I feel worried abt him after this interview...

#pray4Bradford

List of things that Bradford Cox hates

  • indie
  • the modern indie machine
  • music festivals
  • being an indie celeb
  • no1 caring about any1 else in Deerhunter other than himself
  • drugs and alcohol
  • every1
  • everything
  • 'music'
  • himself
  • u
  • me
  • every1 we know

Worried abt Broford Cox... Wish he'd just accept his place as 'the Win Butler of Deerhunter' and stop being so afraid of being a front man. Wish he was more appreciative of his blog buzz... Does he know what it is like to be an indiesphere spectator instead of producing critically acclaimed albums every year? Shame on u, Bradley Cox.

Does Bradford Cox seem like a 'genius'/'troubled artist' or does he just need 2 'shut up and make some more mp3s for blogs'?
Is he 'jaded' by the modern indiesphere?
Should he be more appreciative of his 'golden boy status' with Pitchfork + surprisingly solid album sales?
Does he seem 'complex' or 'simple'?
Does he curse too much, setting a bad example 4 kids?
Do yall care abt the other members of Deerhunter or should BroCox throw them out?
Do u think we will see more explosive interviews with this 'loose cannon' in the near future/can more journalists try to inspire bloggable tirades out of him?
Do u think he needs antidepressants so he can feel happier abt life as a buzzband?
Do u have any ideas 4 anything else that Bradford Cox should h8?

Rolling Stone puts Snooki on cover, are magazines 'officially dead'?

Posted: 03 Mar 2011 09:13 AM PST

snooki rolling stone cover
From what I understand, the magazine industry is dying, and magazine covers mainly exist as a .jpg file for blogs to blog about but no1 buys magazines because they would rather read stuff 4 free on blogs. At this point, magazines sorta have to put bands and humans that appeal to tweens and mainstreamers on their cover so that they can sell copies. The popular New Jersey native Snooki is on the new cover of Rolling Stone, making it pretty obvious that the magazine industry is in trouble. Snooki is known for being a 'mini whore' who loves to make love to as many men as possible after getting as buzzed as possible. I don't know if she has anything innovative to say, or if there is some sort of 'real Snooki' that the journalist tried 2 uncover.

I sorta wonder if ppl are still 'into' Jersey Shore or if the meme of it has died. I guess ppl will always love Snooki because u sorta have to 'watch over her' like your mentally handicapped little sister, except she knows how 2 party and doesn't mind blowing dudes on the reg.

Is Rolling Stone 'more relevant' than ever?
Are we all just trying to get hits/sell our brand/expose our brand 2 as many ppl as possible?
Does Rolling Stone still produce 'quality content with a high level editorial voice'? (I have nvr read it)
Who is yalls fave Jersey Shore member?
Have yall ever had the dream where u r motorboating JWoww and then she makes love to u with a strap on?

NPR tries 2 be alt by writing an article abt how 'vinyl is back.'

Posted: 03 Mar 2011 08:52 AM PST

NPR is an influential overground tastemaker that provides 'interesting content' for boring ppl who actively want to be cool. Since every other relevant new media outlet has written about 'the exciting resurgence of vinyl sales bc of indie music', NPR wrote a segment about it. Because most NPR listeners are 'sheep' who use it as a GROUPON-esque tastemaking service, you know that most overground cool dads might start to build a vinyl record collection now.

Anyways, did a standard interview with some record label called "Mexicans in the Summer" that probably releases indie tejano music or something.

Even the people who service vinyl's small but devoted audience are cautious when describing the format's resurgence.

"Vinyl is definitely growing, and will continue to grow. But I think there's a ceiling," says Andres Santo Domingo, the co-founder of the label Mexican Summer. "I don't think it'll ever become the prevalent format. I think it'd be crazy to think that."

Leave it to NPR to produce content that is 'boring and sensible' and probably features a bunch of ppl talking in calm voices.

I sorta wish this article was more 'bold' and they really sold vinyl records as 'being back' just because the headline made it seem like vinyl 'was back' but now they are like 'well, KINDA...'

Abrahamsson says the small resurgence vinyl has enjoyed lately is easier to understand as a reaction — and a complement — to the options available online.

"I think it definitely was a reaction to the mp3, but I think the two of them together make perfect sense," he says.

Oh well, at least I learned that vinyl is made out of pellets.

I feel kinda weird that ppl can listen to the local-news-esque trend pieces on the radio and 'feel more interesting.'

Is NPR the most relevant music blog?
Is NPR the #1 influencer in the altosphere?
Is vinyl 'back' or will it never be 'back' because it can't fit on a computer?
Are ppl who collect vinyl records 'complete ass holes'?
Do records + CDs + cassette tapes have 'too much' of a carbon footprint?
Should I go to my local Best Buy and buy a laser disc hybrid record player?

VIVIAN GIRLS GONE WILD: More sexi photos of Kickball Katy's wild Booze Cruise antics emerge

The Booze Cruise was some event where a bunch of weirdo punk fuzz buzz bands went on some cruise then a bunch of ppl paid to go on the cruise with them. Overall most of the bands were boring, but the only real meme that can be extracted is the Vivian Girls' member Kickball Katy wearing a sexi swim suit, and her 'wild partying antics.' Kinda jeal of the blipster in this picture. I have always had a 'licking champagne off titties' fantasy, but I always thought it was a mainstream fantasy, but I guess maybe it can be alt.

Here she is getting buzzed on Franzia.

Getting buzzed with the other Viv Gals

Spotted 'canoodling' with some guy in the Black Lips

Hardcore Vivian Girls 4some with John Norris.

Really hoping that the Vivian Girls are 'okay', but u can't help but wonder if they finally got over their sadness abt Best Coast's career 'taking off' and maybe they have accepted that they are a fun loving fuzzy buzzband and that they still have a reason 2 be happie and party hard to get more blog coverage.

Will the Vivian Girls 'provide more quality memes' than Best Coast, or was this just a fluke event because they were on a party boat?
Do u wish this boat sank? [via the Titanic]
Has Kickball Katy 'gone too far'?
Should Kickball Katy 'go solo'?
Even though the Vivian Girls make forgettable music, can they still be bloggable if they 'continue 2 show skin'?

BREAKING: Death Cab for Cutie releases new MP3s but no1 even likes their music

Posted: 02 Mar 2011 06:27 PM PST

No1 even likes Death Cab for Cutie any more/takes them seriously as anything more than a honky white cool dad indie band, but for some reason I will enjoy following their career and thinking abt what they used to be and how they are just coasting on a dead indie aesthetic but still trying to be artists but just writing weirdo/weak folk rock. It feels kinda weird 2 listen 2 their music and ur just like 'uhh is this a high school band or something.'

Anyways, there are some new songs by them. Of course they are nowhere close to 10.0 material, but sometimes I like to put on Ben Gibbard and put on a dress and pretend I am Zooey Deschanel and I will pretend that they are good just not to cause any relationship conflict.

Do ppl still care abt Death Cab for Cutie?
What is their greatest song of all time?
Has their career continued to get worse with each release?
Is Death Cab for Cutie going to have the #1 album in the USA [via overgrounders]?
Can we call Death Cab's career a success or a failure?
When will Zooey D + Ben Gibbard 'break up'?
