Grizzly Bear's Chris Taylor is named one of the 50 most stylish people in New York

Posted: 24 Feb 2011 03:38 PM PST

Chris Taylor is the bass player and producer of Grizzly Bear...but he is better know as a total indie hunk QT alt celeb Brooklynite and founder of Terrible Records and the guy who produced the hit 2k10 Twin Shadow album "Forget You" [via Cee-Lo]...

It seems like he was named 'one of New York City's 50 Most Stylish ppl' by some random blog/website that may or may not be legitimate.

I'm not from New York City, so I don't really know anything about style or what ppl there look like, or how they dress. Sometimes I watch 'The City' on MTV, so I basically consider NYC to be the same as 'Laguna Beach.' Do yall know if ppl in NYC are 'mad stylish'?

Who is the most stylish bro in indie rock?
Do yall think that the other members of Grizzly Bear are upset abt Chris Taylor's new 'hunk status'?
Will get 'go solo' and leave the band 2 prove that they are 'jack shit' without him?
Do yall miss Ed Droste's twitter so he could have 'sounded off' on the Arcade Fire Grammy win?
Will Grizzly Bear 'get revenge' on AnCo bc AnCo 'dominated' 2k9 buzz headlines?
Will Grizzly Bear's next album reach 'ArFi' status/should they acquire Vicki LeGrand from Beach House so that she can play the role of 'Regine'?

Do u <3 M.I.A.'s radical new makeover?

m.i.a. blonde hair
M.I.A. recently attended some fashion show in London by some dude named Ashish. While I don't care abt the clothes at this fashion show, I do care abt which famous ppl showed up. As u can see, M.I.A. showed up and now she has blonde hair.

"Somebody call the fashion police and the style police, yall!" -The Mainstreamer

Her outfit doesn't look very flattering, like she is 'hiding a baby' or something.

Do u <3 her new look?
Should dark ppl have blonde hair?
Is she 'trying to hard 2 be controversial' [via ugly fashion/hair]?
Will her career rebound after her 2k10 flop of a year?
Do u think blonde hair will make her a better rapper/artist, or does she only care abt blog headlines?

Natalie Portman walks her tiny dog thru the airport, acts like a mainstreamer

natalie portman dog
I just saw this picture of indie actress Natalie Portman 'walking her dog' thru an airport... It doesn't really seem very 'indie' of her, but I guess she is pregnant, and 'having a dog' is good practice 4 taking care of a baby.

Maybe it's just time 2 admit that Natalie Portman is a mainstream actress once and for all, and let go of my vision of her as a 'free spirited female broad' like she was in the Garden State. Maybe she was just acting... Maybe she's not really in2 the Shins...

Is it unchill of Natalie Portman 2 have a mini pet dog?
R u jealous of her husband Benjamin Millepied?
R u jealous of her dog?
Do u think she is just trying to create a 'Snacks the Cat' type of mascot for herself?
Will Natalie Portman's indie career suffer now that she has a child marinating in her womb?

Crystal Castles accepts some award, Alice Glass continues to perform in protective boot

Posted: 24 Feb 2011 07:46 AM PST

Crystal Castles won some fake award from the fake awards show "the NME Awards", but I guess we can all pretend that this award means something and they really achieved something special. At least we got some funnie picture of Crystal Castles on stage accepting an award. I wonder who they thanked. Maybe "Bleepy: The Lord of the Bleep Bloops" for inspiring them to write brilliant music.

Crystal Castles have been honoured with the John Peel Award For Innovation at the Shockwaves NME Awards 2011 in London tonight (February 23).

Kewl. I hope 1 day Crystal Castles wins an MTV Award so that they can put it on their awards mantle.

They also performed live even though Alice Glass has a severely broken ankle

U gotta give Alice Glass props 4 staying so strong during her recovery.

I wonder if she is still 'drinking' or if she is 'taking it EZ' 2 heal. sorta wish I coulda been there <3

R u proud of Crystal Castles for winning this fake award?
Will it help them 2 get more UK fans?
WTF are the NME Awards? Is NME 'the Pitchfork' of Britain?
Is Alice Glass the toughest indie songstress in indie?
Should I buy an Alice Glass walking boot 2 take my personal brand 2 the next level?

Pitchfork 'pans' Radioheads "The King of Limbs."

Posted: 24 Feb 2011 06:32 AM PST

For the past 100 blog centuries (~20 years real time), Radiohead has been the darlings of critics all around the world. But after their new album 'The King of Limbs', u can't help but think that their time as 'relevant musicians' might be over... Popular American blogsite Pitchfork Media gave the Kings of Distorted_Alt_bleepbloop_core_post_ambient_trance_dubstep an incredibly disappointing 7.9.

I think they basically say "In Rainbows" was a better album because it was free and it lowered expectations, so it was 'bullshit' that the Radioheads charged money 4 this album when all of their fans were already used 2 getting their music 4 free.

Now that the music on In Rainbows has had four years to outshine its launch mechanism, it's easy to forget that the album originally came bundled with an honest attempt to solve a business problem. The pay-what you-think-is-fair system wasn't just Radiohead being magnanimous, it was using their popularity and their newly won independence to ask what might have been the single most important question facing a shaken music industry: What is an album in the download era actually worth to fans?

Here is a paragraph where they say that the album was kinda lame, lost, lacking something that we've come 2 expect from the Radioheads

Radiohead's eighth record, The King of Limbs, represents a marked attempt to create a considered and cohesive unit of music that nonetheless sits somewhere outside of the spectrum of their previous full-length discography. And that's not to say that it doesn't ripple with the dazzling sonics or scenery that have become the band's stock in trade, but just that, unlike so many of their milestones, there's no abiding sense of a band defying all expectations in order to establish new precedents.

Instead, we get eight songs that feel mostly like small but natural evolutions of previously explored directions.

Basically, Radiohead got lazy and sorta just 'mailed it in', and because they weren't 'pushing the envelope' with a gimmick like 'pay-what-u-want', fans and critics were bored, and they just made another forgettably good album.

So: eight tracks, each of them worth your time, and yet The King of Limbs is still likely to go down as Radiohead's most divisive record. A trawl through message boards and social networks leaves the impression that many disappointed fans are still struggling to make sense of the gap between the greatness of the thing they got and the genius of the thing they thought they might get. It's in that gap, when assessing the album overall, that it's easy to get tangled up. This is well-worn terrain for Radiohead, and while it continues to yield rewarding results, the band's signature game-changing ambition is missed.

Is 7.9 a disappointing score in the modern Pitchfork Era when any lofi/chillchill/wavewave buzzband is 'guaranteed at least an 8.4'?
Are we 'being too hard on Thom'?

Is Radiohead just another example of an alt-rock band who has outlived their shelf life?
Is it time for Radiohead 2 'break up'?
Is it time 4 Americans to stop 'kissing the ass' of Radiohead and other UK dubsteppy bands?
Would most buzzbands 'kill' for a 7.9?
Is Radiohead allowed 2 be 'Best New Music' because they are old & tired?
Do u <3 or h8 Radiohead?
Can we officially call The King of Limbs 'the biggest flop' of 2k11? [via Fox News' #1 album of 2k11]

EXCLUSIVE PREMIERE: Arcade Fire give first listen 2 their new jazz-inspired album

The Arcade Fire won another 'Best Album of the Year' award from some other Awards System/Show, but because it wasn't an important awards show, they just sent in this pre-recorded message because they are in the studio working on a new album. As u can see, Win Butler delivers a zany message as the band is 'jamming out'. U see Will Butler, the Ginger bro, the other dudes, and even Regine. They claim that the upcoming album is a jazz album.

Does the jazz album sound 'promising', or are they just 'making fun of TV on the Radio' because they claim 2 be inspired by jazz & they blow? via nme:

Arcade Fire's 'The Suburbs' has been voted Best Album at the Shockwaves NME Awards 2011.

The band weren't able to attend tonight's (February 23) ceremony at London's O2 Academy Brixton, but sent a video message acceptance speech instead.

"Thank you for naming our album 'The Suburbs' top album," frontman Win Butler said. "We really wish we could be there to celebrate, but we’re working on a new album right now. It's kind of a jazz-inspired thing so hopefully we’ll drop it next year. So thank you, NME, thank you!"

From what I understand, NME is 'just some magazine/website', so hopefully Pitchfork can 'step it up' and have a physical awards show.

Does Win have 'more confidence than evr' now that he knows he wrote one of the best albums of the year?

Does Win 'seem like a funny bro' or does it seem weird that he violated his serious 'no bullshit' brand?
Does win seem like an authentic Canadian dork?

R u worried abt Regine? Does she seem trapped in the Arcade Fire bro dungeon?

Will the Arcade Fire win 'every single Best album of the year award'?
Is NME a legitimate awards show?
Will the next ArFi album 'live up to' "The Suburbs" or will it 'flop'?
Do yall miss Regine? :-(
