HIPSTER RUNOFF

The Strokes release a new MP3 that sounds like the Strokes again. Will it save 2k11?

The Strokes Angles album art 2011
The Strokes are coming out with a new album in 2k11. From what I understand abt their career, they 'peaked early', riding post-9-11 feel good indie vibes, then went kinda altstream/mainstream, then they wrote some crappy albums, and every1 was like 'cmon yall...write them like u used 2.' Now they may or may not have 'written them like they used to', but they are more of a brand now (not a band) so it might not even matter. Ppl have already made up their minds about the Strokes, so it if matches their projected image of the band, then every1 will be happy.

Do yall dig this 30 second sample “Under Cover of Darkness”?
Can u judge the entire album based on these 30 seconds of what you can assume is the poppiest+best song on the album?

Is this song 'mad buzzworthy' or 'just another forgettable Strokes song?
Is the album 'Angles' gonna retroactively save 2k10?
Will it 'save' 2k11?
Will it make 2k11 more than 'just another year' of decent mp3s?
Can the Strokes get a 10.0, or will they just be an overground band that gets a 6.3?
What is the best Strokes song of all time?

robyn gay lesbian
I don't know what the deal with Robyn is. I think she is just the annual 'gay pride' female indie artist or something. Seems decent, but ultimately might not be attractive enough/show off enough of her body to 'go mainstream.' All I know is that I still consider her career a 'flop' after she failed to 'make it' as a mainstream artist back when Britney Spears and Xtina Aguilera were still entry-level slutwavers. Guess she is stuck appealing to 'the gays' and Euros.

Anyways, just saw this picture of her, and it seems like she is really trying hard to join the slutwave stable of artists. Intense boots. Leggings with some broad's face on them. Tongue hangin out. Humping the air. Cmon Robyn... U gotta 'show dadi a lil bit more skin' if u wanna go mnstrm and ride mad slutwaves. She is opening up for Katy Perry on her next tour, so maybe that will help her career. U never know. Probs just gonna be an artist from the Perez Hilton playlist 4 the rest of her life.

Does Robyn 'look good'?
What does she need 2 do to have a better career?
Is Robyn an overrated indie pop songstress?
Should I get platform boots?
Do Robyn's producers 'do the heavy lifting' and she just gesticulates on stage?
Is Robyn human or is she dancer?

Is the Super Bowl the ultimate mainstream experience?

Sometimes I wonder if mainstream society 'cyberbullies me' into caring abt mainstream events. I'll be sitting alone, in my room, on my computer, connected 2 social networks and then every1 starts talking abt a relevant [TRENDING] event. Then it's like, 'I am afraid of being left out' so I'll tune in, but I'll have a detached, snarky 'take' on what I am watching, just to try to preserve my transcendent identity, then I will 'enter into the discussion' and broadcast my high level thoughts on a low-level, mainstream event. I wonder if any1 even 'enjoys' watching the Super Bowl any more. It seems like the mainstream bro version of the MTV VMAs--just an event that exists 2 generate 'something 2 talk abt'... but maybe that's life... a series of events that u get 2 talk abt with other ppl.

Did u watch the Super Bowl?
Is the Super Bowl 'hella mainstream'?
What was the most meme-able meme of the Super Bowl?
Did Christina Aguilera ruin the Super Bowl with her slutwave lips 'butchering' our great country's national anthem?

Don't really 'get' American Football. It seems like it was some sort of 'WWE wrestling event' this year because these bros won championship belts [via steroids].

Or they won the opportunity to sacrifice little pageant girls 2 the Footbal Gods

I just stayed at home instead of going to my local Chili's Grill and Bar located in the Midwestern United States.

Costco provided some great options 4 snacks + adult beverages. Here's me + my bros. We have a SICK big screen TV [via the 1990s]

FOX accidentally started showing the Big Lebowski during the game. Here is the dude with the moustache.
sam elliott big lebowski

Not sure if people even care about the game. Feels like every1 just watches so they don't miss out on 'the most meme-worthy events.' Here is Cameron Diaz feeding Alex Rodriguez some steroids.

'We are internet famous for being famous on the internet, and sometimes we are in movies. The internet will keep us young forever' -tweens + Ashton Kutch + Demi Mores

Don't forget abt our troops while u watch the game / read this blog / do anything 'sweet' bc ppl somewhere else are fighting 4 ur freedom.

Did yall watch the Super Bowl Half time show ft 'The Black Peys'?

Sorta wonder if the Black Eyed Peas 'ripped off' Daft Punk's 15 year old gimmick

I guess u have to put zany carvings in ur head when ur not as famous as Will.I.Am or Fergie, and ur not a weird albino dude.

'We are the world's #1 pep rally band.'

Does n e 1 know who is 'actually a Black Eyed Peas fan?'

Never really heard the Guns and Roses, but deceased lead singer Axl Rose is certainly 'rolling over in his grave.'

Celebrated the Black Eyed Peas halftime performance with a Four Loko bath

Not sure if there were even any 'meme-worthy' commercials because every1 would rather experience memes on demand [via youtube streaming] instead of having 2 watch a football game.

I guess the 'buzzworthiest commercial' was GROUPON because they 'made fun of Tibet.' It seems like the commercial provided great commentary on America's Deal Hunting and Coupon Hoarding Society, searching for savings within our own culture, as opposed to looking to save globally. However, I think mainstreamers (the ppl they are trying to get to sign up 4 deals) are probably 'pissed' at this commercial because mainstreamers want to be considered 'good people.

Do yall care abt Tibet, or just getting sweet deals in ur inbox [via Groupon]?
Does this mean I have 2 sign up for a Living Social account?
Should GROUPON offer deals in Tibet?
Is this the end of Groupon?
Would yall trade 'the death of Tibet' for eternal coupons + deals?

At least we got to see Doritos finally 'embrace their brand' and the perception of the 'borderline retarded' bros who eat their chips.

Would yall rather eat Cheeto Dust or Dorito Dust? Have yall ever licked a peen with Dorito dust on it?
I wonder if it is considered 'cheating' to 'go viral' during the Super Bowl because you are paying a fee 2 get exposure to a mainstream lamestream audience.

Feels like this post is 'really suffering' because there weren't enough blogworthy moments at the Super Bowl. They probably need a 'red carpet' so that there can be more pix of slutwave humans showing off their breasteses.

Do yall care about the game?
Did Troy Aikman really deserve 2 be the MVP?

'Sorry bro. Guess u lost ur swagger.'

R u happy that 'America's Team' won?
Should the Black Eyed Peas be executed during 1 of their shows?
Is the GROUPON CEO 'the chillest bro on the planet'?
Do yall hope that they pave over Tibet and build the Groupon HQ there?
If u were a mainstreamer, would u sign up for Groupon or LivingSocial?
What were the #1 memes of the Super Bowl?
Will Aaron Rodgers 'save' 2k11 [via TOMBOY]?
R u worried abt Tom Brady + Peyton Manning?
Did the Saint let down post-Katrina New Orleans by not winning?
Should I just get a 'tug job' [via feet] from Rex Ryan's wife?
What are the mainstream-est days of the year?
Is the Super Bowl = 'The Super Bowl of Mainstream Events for Bros, Lamestreamers, Mainstreamers, and Middle American wavers'?

Toro Y Moi debuts album stream on Urban Outfitters instead of NPR

In the modern indie scene, it has become 'the norm' to allow your fans to stream the album before they buy it. Basically 'it leaks anyways' so might as well just let ppl have a taste b4 they DL it to put it on their iPod. Many artists choose to 'debut' their stream at NPR because a bunch of overground cool dads will actually click-thru and purchase the album from iTunes/amazon. However, it seems like Toro Y Moi debuted the stream of his upcoming album Underneath the Pine at Urban Outfitters, a popular alt clothing store. Must be trying to break in2 alt tween markets or something instead of trying to get cool dads 2 purchase this album.

Was this a 'savvy business move' by Toro Y Moi?
Or is NPR 'way too lame' to even 'appreciate' Torbro's new album?

Urban Outfitters also made the music video for the song "New Beat."

Does this video 'crush it' or did u sorta just skip around?

Here is Urby asking Chazzy 'why did u let us make ur video?'

What made you decide to let Urban Outfitters make your video?
What appealed to me about deciding to work with Urban for the video was knowing the amount of exposure it would get, and the fact that we had a decent budget to fit our needs. I talked to the videographer about several ideas, and we ended up with something that was both cinematic and fun.

Seems honest.
Do u think he would have received more exposure if he debuted it on AOL's new hit property the Huffington Post?

They also asked him this question abt his iPod

What's the most embarrassing song on your iPod?
I think I have some Thursday on there—I've been trying to get that off for the longest time.

Will the next Toro Y Moi album sound like Thursday [via Understanding in a Car Crash]?
Do u <3 Toro Y Moi's latest hit album?
Is it better than Cut Copy's album?
Will it get above an 8.6 or below an 8.6?

Pitchfork gives Cut Copy 8.6, claims we will like album more when winter is over

Posted: 07 Feb 2011 07:41 AM PST

cut copy pitchfork review zonoscape
Cut Copy's new album Zonoscape is apparently the first truly buzzworthy, highly anticipated album or 2k11. It seems like popular internet music rating service Pitchfork Media gave Cut Copy a score of 8.6 on the album. Many have mixed emotions on this album, because it is 'aiiite', but 'not really the fun electro post-bloghouse' that we were expecting. Sounded sorta like a weird trance/new wave album.

Is this album a 'solid start' to 2k11, or are we basically re-living 2k10?What would u rate this album?

Basically, they were just like, "yeah cut copy is good. blah blah. This album is good. Blee Bloo. It is summer in Australia, so Australians probably rlly like it. We'll like it when the American snow melts away and we can partie hard 2 it.."

Cut Copy are Australian, and it's summer in Australia right now. So if it feels a little weird listening to an album of euphoric, starry-eyed dance-rock on earbuds while you're scraping snow-grit off your windshield, keep in mind: Somewhere in the world, someone is probably road-tripping to a swimming hole with this album playing, or eating a popsicle, or playing catch with their dogs while it blasts out of a car stereo or nearby boombox. By the time summer arrives for those of us in the northern hemisphere, we'll know these songs by heart and be able to sing along loudly.

Do yall <3 eating popsicles at the ole swimmin hole and listening 2 buzzbands?
Do u buy into the theory that Cut Copy's Zonoscape will 'make more sense' when we can throw down a sick spring break/summer/sxsw partie?
Do MP3s sound better while u r eating a popsicle?
popsicle girl buzzbands summer

Has every electro indie band been inspired by Cut Copy? Has any1 topped Cut Copy as 'the #1 electro band in indie'? Here is a paragraph where they call this album Cut Copy's version of OK Computer [via the radioheads].

Back when this group released 2004's Bright Like Neon Love, the idea of backing dazed, introverted indie pop with a utopian house thump was still relatively novel. And though that sound has since inspired legions of followers and copycats, still no one does it quite like Cut Copy themselves. 2008's steamrolling In Ghost Colours was an album of anthems; tracks like "Hearts on Fire" and "Lights and Music" were transcendent pop that stuck in heads for days. But Zonoscope is something different. It's an album-album that puts serious work into movements and transitions, and it works best when you hear it all in one chunk. That doesn't mean it's Cut Copy's OK Computer; it just means that the group has put more work into building a vast, rolling landscape rather than a series of peaks.

Do u appreciate this album 'as a whole' or was it just kinda a letdown?
Do u expect more out of Cut Copy?
Do u hope the snow melts away?

Here is a part where they say that Cut Copy is no longer dance rock.

Compared to the last two albums, Zonoscope has precious little guitar crunch, which makes it hard to even call Cut Copy a dance-rock band anymore. And that's for the best-- not just because that combination seems like a less thrilling prospect in 2011 than perhaps it once did, but also because Cut Copy have the architecture of dance music down perfectly and the confidence to execute the genre's moves with absolute precision. Even in the dead of winter, Zonoscope does its job beautifully. Imagine how it'll sound when you don't have to layer up to go outside.

Have yall ever experienced music that sounded better when the weather was different?
Does the winter make u sad + less available 2 partie?
Should all 'electro albums' be released in the American summer?
Do buzzbands sound more meaningful in the winter?
Do u hope the snow melts soon?
snow buzzbands poem cut copy indie
Does 'the weather' really change the mood of the human spirit, or is that all 'bullshit'?

EXCLUSIVE Girl Talk post-game interview, reacts to crushing Super Bowl Loss

Posted: 06 Feb 2011 08:11 PM PST

Girl Talk recently attended the Super Bowl in Dallas between his hometown Pittsburgh Steelers against the Green Bay Packers. Unfortunately, the Packers defeated the Steelers, and Gregg Gillis was all sad. It feels like he went there 4 nothing, just to experience pain + disappointment.

In this EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW, Gregg is interviewed by HRO blogger Carles, and reacts 2 the loss.

Hey Gregg, did u have fun at the Super Bowl?

Cmon. You just had to be happy to attend such a huge event.

At least the guys played well, executed, held on to the ball.

Aaron Rodgers was the clear MVP of the game, right?

Do u think the Packers will 'repeat'?

Is Ben Roethlisburger a bad dude? U think he 'lost his swagger' this year because every1 was on his ass?

Why r u being such a sore loser, bro?

Are you a DJ?

R u happie?

Black Eyed Peas at least put on a sweet show, right?

Cmon dude. Ur a mainstream bro. Just admit u liked it.

Will the Super Bowl appearance revive the Pittsburgh economy?

Will you make people pay 4 ur next album?

No.

R u worried abt Girl Talk's dramatic response 2 the loss?
Did Girl Talk 'jinx' Pittsburgh?
Does he need 2 stop being such a bro and start shooting for a 10.0?
