From what I understand, some bands expect to be paid 'in real money' for making MP3s, so there are a few retailers who sell MP3s. Much like physical stores, they are kinda like some sort of 'place where u buy shit', and they compete against one another by having gimmicks/price cuts/etc.
Anyways, a lot of ppl were wondering 'Is Amazon's MP3 selling business catching up with iTunes?' Amazon offers DRM free mp3s, and iPods MP3s are all protected and shit, and sometimes Amazon offers 'low deals' on entire MP3 albums, bc if u rlly think abt it... How much is an MP3 worth? Should all MP3s really 'cost the same'? Is an MP3 hidden on a CD worth more than an MP3 u buy from a retailer? Amazon will do this thing where it 'drastically reduces prices' on new/old albums just to get customers 2 buy the album from them. Apparently Amazon MP3 'still blows' and 'iTunes is kicking ass.' On the day Apple Inc. rolled out the Beatles' catalog on its iTunes Store, Amazon.com Inc. fired back with a digital exclusive of its own: The latest album from rap-rocker Kid Rock—whose music still isn't available on iTunes—for just $3.99. Such steep discounts are a cornerstone of Amazon's strategy to gain traction in a market in which iTunes remains the dominant player. Tron: Legacy is some new Disney movie abt electro, computer games, robots, 3d, and other weird crap that people who drink Mountain Dew would like. However, it seems like Disney did a 'good enough job' of marketing the new Tron movie in order 2 make ppl go see it so it was #1 at the box office.
Tron Legacy raked in an estimated $43.6 million on approximately 5,600 screens at 3,451 locations
Wonder if Daft Punk made 'the right decision' by co-branding themselves with this movie. Feel like it still didn't get a lot of mainstream Avatar-level buzz, so not sure if mainstreamers <3 the Daft Punk brand even more now. Disney tackled the challenging sell of Tron Legacy by bombarding the public with a massive marketing campaign, hoping to hook viewers with its father-son storyline and the razzle dazzle of its visual effects, even if it didn't make a lick of sense to the uninitiated. Predictably, Legacy's audience skewed heavily male (66 percent), according to Disney's exit polling, and 75 percent was aged 18 years and older.

Zooey Deschanel is the lead singer of the popular band She & Him, but more importantly, she is a hit indie actress who has evolved into an 'indie sex icon' after she married Ben Gibbard, just to sort of steal some press from him. Wonder if she sorta regrets that as a 'long term' gimmick now that DeathCabs aren't really that relevant any more.
Anyways, ZoZo is 'suing the fuck' out of shoemaker Steve Madden for $2 million because Steve Madden apparently 'promised her a shoe line' but it 'didn't come thru': According to the lawsuit, in August 2010 Deschanel’s agent at CAA and Steve Madden made a binding, oral agreement stating that the starlet would be paid $2 million by the company to front a line of shoes, tentatively called “Zooey’s Shoes and Accessories.” She was told that she would be paid regardless of whether or not the items were actually produced, and that the payment would cover 13 days of work, including a photo shoot for an ad as well as press appearances. A few weeks later, Steve Madden came back to the Deschanel camp, complaining that one retailer in particular was not keen on the collaboration, which meant they’d have to reduce the fee to $1.5 million. Deschanel’s agent agreed to the new fee. During this time, the actress refrained from entering into any similar contracts, as that was part of the oral agreement.
First of all, I'm not sure why she would want to work with Steve Madden. From what I understand, Steve Madden is the official brand of 'cool dad' business casual sporty shoes. I guess maybe this is the vibe that Zooey would go 4, since cool dads probably think she is 'hot' / 'relevant.'
 Wonder why she thinks she deserves $2 million for 'doing nothing.' She should have 'got up off her ass' and signed a deal with Payless shoes or something, but maybe she is not mainstream/poor-wave enough to appeal to Payless-wave markets. under California State law, verbal contracts are binding. But it’s very difficult to prove. We’re guessing Madden will pay up, or at least settle, as to avoid more bad press.
I guess Zooey Deschanel just 'needs a payday' / is trying to 'get headlines' or something.
