From what I understand, Beach House is widely considered to be 'one of the best bands of 2k10', however, it seems like they have a huge decision to make on whether they want to be 'indie darlings' or if they really want to go after the post-Feist 'big bucks' and go mainstream, capitalizing on their accessibility + Vicki LeGrand's poppy voice.
Wonder if they are going to write a 'pop album.'
Anyways, they have some new 'Christmas song' and it 'sounds good/just like all of their other songs.' Sometimes I wonder if girls like Beach House, or if it is just 'good female music for bros.' In 2k10, they have basically reached the indie status where u 'have 2' blog about any MP3 they put out, or else ur blog brand may or may not be 'irrelevant.'
Has Beach House had the 'best year' of any mid-tier indie band 2k10? Can Beach House 'grow' even more, or have they 'peaked'/already found their indie formula? Does this song 'crush it', or is it the same Beach House formula? R u growing kinda indie_resentful of Beach House, or are they still 'brilliant'? Do u ever have the recurring dream where u wake up next to Victoria LeGrand and u r in a buzzband+meaningful relationship with her and she writes an album inspired by ur love that gets a 10.0? Me + U = 10.0
Sometimes I want 2 do something crazy Do something that rlly let's 'the man' know that they are full of shit Feeling so sad/repressed by society I want to kill every1 so much pain inside of me
Every time I 'pay a bill', I feel trapped Every time I 'don't get a job promotion', I feel trapped Every time I eat fast food, I feel 'trapped' Every time the principal calls me abt my son who is 'acting up', I know there is nothing I can do Every time my peen doesn't get hard when I try to make love to my wife I shake my fist at God/President Obama And blame him for my troubles
Municipal, Local, State, Federal, International I am insignficant There is nothing I can do I will 'shoot up' some sort of 'institution' Ppl who are just as trapped as me Except they are 'pretending they are free' Pretending they are 'hot shit'
I am trapped in suburbia I am trapped in society I am trapped in my life
I wanted to make a statement But in the modern world I just became an 'oddball internet meme' Didn't even kill any1 I am a failure On multiple levels Overweight, pathetic, diabetic, insane, uneducated Less than middle class, poor, unloved
U created me, society I will take u down, society I will take me down, society You will take me down, society
Goodbye world Love, Trapped_In_Society_Raging_against_the_Machine_bro Me
Recently, the ALT REPORT has become the #1 source for tracking Michael Cera's buzzband, Mister Heavenly. The site has done its best to attempt to gauge the reception of the band, and their adapatation to having some1 as famous as Michael Cera in their band. Many times, the article blog posts assume that the band is managing feelings of 'jealousy' for the famous Cera, but at the same time, understanding that it is good for their band if they 'milk' all of the attention on Cera.
It seems like he insinuates that the author of HIPSTER RUNOFF, widely reported to be "Carles" is an unstable human being who should kill himself.
Next he went on to say that when Carles of HIPSTER RUNOFF dies, no1 will care and no1 will know who he even was. It seems like these were hurtful death threats made at Carles. Sort of like "If you don't kill yourself, I'm gonna come kill you for you."
Do u think he is pissed abt what Carles said abt his band? Do u think Carles is 'right' to assume that the band is having difficulty adjusting to their buzz that is based around Mikey Cera? Is Mike Cera 'tearing the indie blogosphere apart'? Do u think they should just 'embrace the buzz' that they are receiving due to Michael Serra? Will this bro 'hunt down' Carles? Is Carles 'a pussie' for 'being anonymous'? Is it unchill 2 make death threats on twitter? Do u think he is just 'creating blog beef' to get more buzz for his band? Have u heard Mister Heavenly? Are they worth blogging abt for 'musical reasons' or just bc Mikey Cera is in their band? Are u on #TeamCarles, or are u on #TeamBroInMikeyCera'sBuzzband?
From what I understand, NPR is trying to be a 'relevant tastemaker' in indie rock, mainly because they have a dense white, affluent audience who has expendable money that they are willing to spend in the pursuit of 'feeling more cultured.' Modern indie music offers this white demographic an opportunity to 'feel kewl', 'feel young again', and 'have a reason to <3 music' even though they are just as sheep-like as Walmart-core Middle American listeners.
Anyways, these albums are apparently the results of some 'NPR Listener's Poll' and it was probably the whitest list of artists possible, and then there were a few really 'generic' 'token black' picks. I wonder if NPR is trying to capitalize on the Negrofication of the Pitchforkian content stream, and get a lot of 'militant white indie listeners' on their team.
Here is the list
1. Arcade Fire, The Suburbs 2. The Black Keys, Brothers 3. The National, High Violet 4. Mumford & Sons, Sigh No More 5. Broken Bells, Broken Bells 6. LCD Soundsystem, This Is Happening 7. Vampire Weekend, Contra 8. Sufjan Stevens, The Age Of Adz 9. Beach House, Teen Dream 10. Kanye West, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy 11. Gorillaz, Plastic Beach 12. Sleigh Bells, Treats 13. Jonsi, Go 14. Local Natives, Gorilla Manor 15. Band Of Horses, Infinite Arms 16. The Tallest Man On Earth, The Wild Hunt 17. Deerhunter, Halcyon Digest 18. Spoon, Transference 19. Janelle Monae, The ArchAndroid 20. Yeasayer, Odd Blood 21. Ray LaMontagne & The Pariah Dogs, God Willin' And The Creek Don't Rise 22. New Pornographers, Together 23. Broken Social Scene, Forgiveness Rock Record 24. Joanna Newsom, Have One On Me 25. Cee Lo, The Ladykiller
Damn. That is one white ass list. Really makes me feel like we are back in the 'glory days' of white indie, back in 2k5, maybe even before TV on the Radio 'broke the color barrier' and indie music was a more direct celebration of being white.
Sorta wonder if NPR listeners are 'subconsciously racist.' Do u think they 'effed up' their list? Who listens 2 the National, Mumford and Sons? Did any1 even like the new Sufjan album this year? Do u think ppl even 'listened to Janelle Monae' or did they just hear she is 'rlly authentic' and think they are supposed to vote 4 her? R u happie that NPR listeners 'shafted' Kanye West at #10? Do u feel sad that NPR listeners have 'such bad taste in music'? Do u hope NPR 'goes under' or are they 'doing a good job of rebranding' as a music blog? Do white cool dads only like music created by white ppl in 'kewl looking' bands?
From what I understand, it is totally alt and trendy 2 get food from food trucks, even though it isn't a real restaurant and u r eating food out of the back of a truck. Doesn't really seem like a good idea, but maybe I just have bad memories of 'the ice cream man' as a child [via 'dark personal stories']. Basically, you just have to learn how to make some sort of foreign ethnic food, usually wrapped in a foreign alt piece of bread (naan, tortilla, post-pita, post-Iron Kids Bread), and then u can start a business just as long as u have a truck. Tons of alt ppl do this and end up selling 'cupcakes' or 'tacos' and now white ppl do it and they kicked all of the 'real Mexicans/foreigners' who had food trucks b4 it was alt to own a trendy looking truck.
Anyways, the city of Chicago is 'cracking down' on food truck vendors. Do u think they are doing 'the right thing' even though food trucks are s000 alt and trendie?
Food trucks—essentially restaurants on wheels—have taken off in cities such as Los Angeles and New York, spurred by the weak economy, trendy fare and the proliferation of social media, like Twitter. Food & Wine magazine voted an L.A. food-truck chef one of its "Best New Chefs" of 2010 and the Food Network has a show devoted to such vendors. But in Chicago, one of the nation's most progressive culinary cities, the trucks are held back by restrictive rules and operate in a legal twilight zone.
Do u eat at Food Trucks? Would u rather eat at a chain franchise restaurant, as opposed to a mobile vending truck food service? Do Food Trucks 'shaft' small business owners who invested in rent/a building/a real kitchen/tables/chairs/other stuff u need 2 run a 'real restaurant'? Do food trucks 'try too hard' to make u think that their food isn't shuttle/ cooked+sold from a truck?
It seems like 'real restaurants' are standing up for their rights, making sure the food trucks get sent to jail/impounded:
A spokeswoman for the city says Chicago's rules are for health and sanitary reasons. The City Council is currently considering some changes in food-truck laws. Brick-and-mortar restaurants are fighting the mobile insurgency, chasing trucks from their street fronts, calling police and snapping photos of the vendors in hopes of catching them illegally parked.
Here is some video of some broad who sells 'gourmet cupcakes out of a van.' She 'tweets out her location' to 'loyal customers' who think they are getting a unique experience because they are buying food out of a truck. Feel kinda bad 4 her. Hope she can open up a 'real store' soon.
After receiving a $275 ticket, Ms. Kurtz, a 41-year-old entrepreneur who quit her corporate marketing job recently to launch Flirty Cupcakes, told her fans to meet her in the alley. "It was like a drug deal," she says. "I said, 'Just take them and run."'
Rlly hope that ticket ate her profits for 2-100 days.
Do u think Food Truck Owners are 'bitches' or are they 'making gourmet food affordable and accessible for all humans'? Is eating food out of a truck 'tacky'? Do u only eat at restaurants where u have a waiter? Are yall on #Team_Real_Restaurants or on #Team_Mobile_Eateries?
The food truck concept is "a quaint idea," says Dan Rosenthal, owner of Sopraffina Marketcaffe, a chain of Italian restaurants in Chicago. "But when you get right down to it, it creates an unlevel playing field."
A food-truck operation can get off the ground for under $150,000, while many restaurants spend more than $1 million on real estate and equipment to open their doors.
I feel like most food trucks can probably get off the ground for like $100, just as long as u can go to a junk yard and find an old RV or something. Really just need 2 make sure that u have a truck design aesthetic that appeals 2 'white ppl,' making it clear that ur food brand is way authentic.
Is Chicago 'right' for shutting down food trucks? Are food trucks 'overrated'? Have u ever acquired 'the shits' from eating 'street meat'? Are food trucks the new 'fast food'? What do u feel comfortable buying out of trucks? Dirt? Drugs? Frozen Meats? Ice cream? MP3s? Stolen Stereos? Plz use the comments to share ur experiences eating food out of trendy looking trucks/crappy looking trucks owned by 'foreigners' who don't understand how the industry has been gentrified.
We 'get it' Zuckerbro You're the #1 web designer in the world U invented the facebook U wrote a hit movie called The Social Network You even starred in your own movie
Don't u already 'have enough'? Can't u just 'give it up', bro?
Part of me feels chill because I already won this award back in 2k7 [via social networks] But maybe u 'set this up' tried to make me feel good abt myself by inventing Social_Networks and now u took that away from me just so u could get more famous.
Rlly kinda ovr it Might deactivate my facebook profile get on myspace, embed a sweet song on my profile design a custom background
Congrats though, bro U really became hella 1337 this year Proud of u, qt Does Mark Zuckerberg need to stop 'being all famous'? Is he trying to transition his brand to be more like Steve Jobs/Bill Gates where he can 'be philanthropic'? Should he sell facebook to groupon? Should he sell Groupon to twitter? Should he 'bail out' Myspace Google? Should he invent a blogspot? Should he [reference to outdated/failed website]?
