HIPSTER RUNOFF

HIPSTER RUNOFF

Some indie buzzbands tweets abt how they are authentic bc they don't want 2 be in commercials

Posted: 14 Dec 2010 05:22 PM PST

Just read a tweet by some buzzband abt how they 'turned down shitloads of money' in order to 'remain authentic' [via outdated indie standards]. The buzzband let us know that 'they were not being self-righteous', however, they are 'sacrificing' for the good of their band, the good of their fans, and the good of all indie music. They sacrificed not just for themselves, but for YOU, a member of the indie scene.

Do u think this buzzband is 'full of shit'?
How much money do u think they gave up?
Do u think they are 'effing idiots' if they gave up more than 1-5x what they could make on a US tour?
What is the point of making music if u can't make $$$ from it?

Listened to a few songs by The Pains of Being Pure at Heart ovr the years. Honestly feel like their songs were 'perfectly crafted' for commercials. Like I could see a Honda driving by as their music plays. Possibly a cutesy credit card commercial. Even McDonalds could rebrand using these poppy, generic indie tunes.

Do ppl still respect indie bands who 'don't want commercial success'?
Is that standard still relevant in the 2k10s?
Do the most successful indie/mainstream brands offer their music to represent brands?
Do fans 'care' whether or not their fave bands 'sell out'?
Will the Pains of Being Pure at Heart ever achieve 'authentic alt indie status' if they aren't willing to play by the modern rules of indie?
Do 'true fans' just want their favourite buzzbands to be able to 'pay their bills'?
Do u feel like people even care abt 'what songs are in commercials' or is everything jut
Should the AZN QT in this band 'go solo'?
Should she take over vocals for the 'dude who sounds like a girl anyway'?

"Real buzzbands don't make $$$$, they do it for the love of the buzz."

TRUE BUZZBANDS ONLY CARE ABOUT BUZZ BUCKS.
BUZZ BUCKS ARE MORE VALUABLE THAN MONEY.

The jj hangs out with the other dude from Salem and Oliver Sim of the xx

The jj is some sort of 'failed' buzzband from 2k9 that does meaningful covers of mainstream rap songs, except they just sing over pre-existing songs. Not sure why they are buzzworthy. Here is an example of them singing over the XX's "Intro."

For some reason Gorilla Vs. Bear always blgs abt them [link], but I'm not sure why. Feel like they are only interesting because they are hanging out with more famous ppl in these pix.

Not sure why Jack isn't chilling hard. Kinda miss him. :-(
John Holland seems chill, but he's no Jack Donoghue.

Seems like the other bro in the jj is vibing out with Oliver Sim from the XX. Wonder if they are 'talking abt dubstep' or something.

Wonder if he is all like 'get ur own song, stop ruining my shit.'

Does jj need to 'get their own goddamn songs'?

</embed>

Did they ruin Akon's "Right Now" with this song?
Does the jj need to get a new band name that sounds less like The XX?
Do u think John Holland is 'pissed' that Jack is a bigger 'sex icon' than him?
Is Oliver Sim 'mad keut'?
Who would u rather be stuck on a desert island with: the jj, the xx, or Salem bros?
Do u wish more buzzbands hung out and took meaningful pix 2gthr?

BREAKING: Ariel Pink's "Round and Round" is named Pitchfork's #1 MP3 of the year, shafts Kanye West

Posted: 14 Dec 2010 10:30 AM PST

After Kanye West received a 10.0 from Pitchfork Media, a relevant online magazine, every1 thought it was going to be 'the year of the Kanye.' Every1 had him pencilled in for 'album of the year', and every1 assumed that every song+skit on his album would reserve the top 10 spots of the list would be reserved for his album.

However, Ariel Pink had other plans when the lofi songstress penned "Round and Round." It seems like he 'yoinked' the #1 spot, completely shafting Kanye West.

Pitchfork's top 20 songs of 2k10.

01. Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti - "Round and Round"
02. Kanye West [ft. Pusha T] - "Runaway"
03. LCD Soundsystem - "I Can Change"
04. Robyn - "Dancing on My Own"
05. Big Boi [ft. Cutty] - "Shutterbugg"
06. Kanye West [ft. Dwele] - "POWER"
07. Joanna Newsom - "Good Intentions Paving Company"
08. James Blake - "I Only Know (What I Know Now)"
09. Arcade Fire - "Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains)"
10. Janelle Monáe [ft. Big Boi] - "Tightrope"
11. Deerhunter - "Desire Lines"
12. LCD Soundsystem - "All I Want"
13. Caribou - "Odessa"
14. Sleigh Bells - "Rill Rill"
15. Crystal Castles [ft. Robert Smith] - "Not in Love"
16. Beach House - "Norway"
17. Girl Unit - "Wut"
18. Titus Andronicus - "A More Perfect Union"
19. How to Dress Well - "Decisions (feat. Yüksel Arslan)"
20. Erykah Badu - "Window Seat"

Thoughts and reactions:

  • 40% of the top 10 is 'African American artists'
  • James Murphy's LCD Sounsystem was 'overrated' on this list because it is more than likely his 'swan song' of relevancy
  • The Arcade Fire's "Sprawl II" would have been rated higher if Regine didn't sing it
  • Joanna Newsom is not 'poppy enough' so Robyn had to be placed in the top 10 to make sure girls + gays had a song 2 'be proud of'
  • Crystal Castles might consider adding Robert Smith to the lineup after their placement on this list
  • Beach House didn't really have any 'great mp3s' this year.
  • 'Kanye West is 10.0 material'
  • Ariel Pink 'did it.' He finally went indie-stream
  • Should Ariel 'dump' the Haunted Grafitbros and 'go solo'?

Who were the notable omissions from this list?
Which songs/artists on this list 'suck'?
Do u think Best Coast and WAVVES feel like 'failures' for not cracking the top 10?
Who was the biggest failure of 2k10?
Do u think M.I.A. and MGMT were 'pissed' abt this list?
Is Pitchfork 'eternally relevant', or is the 'negrofication of pitchfork' happening [link]?
Should I dance around with a mangina, vibing out to Ariel Pink's "Round and Round"?
