"I'm Back." -Deakin

Posted: 29 Nov 2010 05:13 PM PST

In 2006, Deakin left Animal Collective due to mysterious, unknown reasons. Today, Deakin rejoined the band. This is his official press release/letter to the fans + indiesphere.

Hi guys

It's me
The Deak

The Deak is back
I know AnCo sucked pretty hard when I left the band
making that poopy album Merriweather Post Pavillion
But it's chill

I'm back
I know every1 was missing the Deak
I bring a lot to the table
Way more than Panda and Avey (especially Geo)

It's gonna be great to be back in the team environment
collab-ing on some music
I had a really great run as a solo artist
But it's time to take my talents to AnCo
[via The_Decision]

Maybe I never realized how good I had it
I didn't see what the band could become
Let's get serious
Never thought this many people would actually like our music

So weird what the AnCo brand has become without me
It's weird to think abt what it would have become if I had stayed in the band

Honestly I am a pretty far out dude
and I gotta admit, most of the stuff I'm doing is really random
a lot of guessing and checking
have no idea what I'm doing

I feel like the band will finally sound a lot better now that I'm back though
Feel like MPP was 'missing something'
Most of the songs sound rlly 'incomplete' 2 me
All AnCo sounds sound better with a touch of Deak

It's cool that I took a break
got to do my own thing
Still got to bang tons of entry level anco broads
who were like 'did u write the song My Girls?'
and I was just like 'yeah'
even though that song kinda sucked, honestly
But at least I got my "D" "S-ed"

The Deak is back in town
and I hope u bitches are ready 2 get ur mind blown
Honestly was difficult because I was kicked out of the band
due to internal conflict with 1 of the members

but srsly though
those dudes missed me
I am great for team chemistry
and pull the best 'jackass' style pranks on the road

U shoulda heard all of the messages they left me every week
begging me to join them on tour
Those dudes know they can't live without me
I'm the fucking Deak

Noah, Dave, Brian...
I'm back, bitches
and we're gonna turn this ship around
No offense, you guys have done a deece job
but shit is gonna get serious
No more fucking around like yall usually do

Get your fucking popcorn ready.
The Deak is back.

Your favourite indie celebrity,
Josh "Deakin" Dibb

***********
Do u think it is chill that Deakin is back in AnCo?
Was he an important member of AnCo?
Will Panda sit out of the next AnCo touring cycle?
Should Geo, Pand and Avey have 'manned up' and said 'listen bro--we're just fine without u'?
Do u know why Deakin left Animal Collective?
Does the universe seem 'right' now that AnCo is a 'four man outfit' again?
Does Deakin seem 'like an a-hole' or 'the ultimate chill bro'?

The XX drummer bro 'goes solo', releases another mp3

Posted: 29 Nov 2010 01:37 PM PST

Jamie XX is the guy from the popular 2k9 buzzband The XX who plays 'the drums', except he doesn't have a drumset and he just taps on some lil sampler thingy. I guess that is a kewl gimmick, but really worried abt him getting carpal tunnel or something. I think his best bet 2 help xx go mainstream is probably to 'start working out', 'get huge guns', and 'man up' behind a real drum set.

Anyways, the xx is 'taking some time off'/'writing their new album', and Jamie XX decided to 'go solo.' Not sure who is in2 this kind of music, but I think it is like 'dubstep' or something. A little bit too abstract 4 my entry level brain 2 vibe 2. Wish he would just stop trying to be Avey Tare/Panda Bear [via AnCo solo proj metaphor] and just focus on the xx.

No idea who the hell 'Gil Scott-Heron' is.
Not really enjoying this song.
Thought it was gonna be an xx song.
Sorry.

'stream'/'buy':

Chill vector graphics, I guess.

Do you like the song "NY is killing me" or is it 'ripping off' the concept behind 'New York I <3 u but ur bringing me down'?
Do u think this song is 'good'?
Do u 'get' dubstep?
Do u feel like jamie xx will make the XX sound 'too dubsteppy'?
Can the xx 'top' their debut album?
Should the XX add more members 2 their band?

Best Coast quits her band, joins Weezer, potentially dumps WAVVES 4 Rivers Cuomo

Posted: 29 Nov 2010 10:01 AM PST

Just saw this video of Bethany Cosentino from Best Coast coming on stage 2 'duet' with Weezer 'frontman' Rivers Cuomo for the hit song "Island in the Sun." I remember back 5-10 years ago when 'this woulda been a big deal' and ppl would be all like 'the buzzband that i love has finally made it 2 the mainstream and been recognized by mainstream celebs/media' but now every1 is just like 'this is boring.'

Guess it is chill that Weezer booked Besty as their opening band, but feels pretty 'whatever' unless some sort of sex scandal comes out of it. If Best Coast wants to take her career srsly/go 'mainstream' and take fuzzy buzzy to the masses, she needs to a) get a few of her tattoos removed so she doesn't scare tweens b) dump WAVVES for Rivers Cuomo / potentially a hotter young Hollywood actor and c) stop tweeting abt dank. Just want her 2 reach her potential and not get caught up in the who 'indie game' now that 'indie is dead' [via Kanye West 10.0].

Also saw this video of Rivers Cuomo + Bethany 'practicing' their duet in what looks to be like Rivers Cuomo's 'sex dungeon' or something. Not sure why he is USTREAMing it when shit could get 'really dark' at any moment. Wonder what is in Bethie's 'red cup' [via college parties].

Do u think they 'crushed' Island in the Sun?
Do u care abt Best Coast any more or did she peak with 'Sun Was Hi, and So were i'?

Will her second album 'critically tank'?
Instead of focusing on Pitchforkian indie audience, should she attempt to craft songs that can get 'mainstream radio play'?
What should Best Coast's next career move be?
Do u think Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen do a better job of singing "Island in the Sons" than Rivies and Bethers?
Has =w= finally 'regained' indie cred now that they have dueted with Best Coast?
Should Best Coast dump her band and try to form a supergroup with Weezer?

The QT from Twin Sister dyes her hair green

Posted: 29 Nov 2010 08:31 AM PST

Andrea Estella is the lead singer of the hit 2k10 buzzband Twin Sister. Apparently they are on some UK tour. I don't really know anything about Britain except that they have pretty bad taste in music, and even if they do like a band that is 'good', it takes them like 1-2 years to get in2 them.

Anyways, it seems like 'my gurle' Andrea dyed her hair green 2 enhance her personal brand. She seems kinda keut, like she just got 'slimed' [via Nickelodeon Studios]

'Sorry bro, ur lil punk ass just got slimed.'

It seems like Andrea Estella is really 'doing a lot' to 'brand herself' as one of the most important indie songstresses in indie rock music. Feel like if she just develops a few signature 'dance moves', or potentially an Alice-Glass-like personal branding gimmick, she will be 'set' for life even if all the other bros quit the band.

So tired of all of these bros 'hogging' Andrea on their magic carpet. Kinda wish I could 'go on a metaphorical maggy carpet ride' with her [via Aladdin + Jasmine {sub-via "I Can Show U A World" Duet}].

Do u <3 Andrea?
Do u think she is going to 'make the jump' in 2k11?
Will Twin Sister be able to 'deliver' their second album to a wider audience?
Do u think her green hair is 'mad keut'?

Is she wearing a 'wig' or is her hair 'permanent'?
Will she become 'the Lady Gaga of indie' [via wearing wigs] = her personal branding gimmick?
R u on #TeamAliceGlass or #TeamAndieEstella or #TeamVickiLeGrand or #Team Beth?

Pitchfork creams its pants over the new Girl Talk album, gives it an 8.2

Posted: 29 Nov 2010 07:05 AM PST

Girl Talk is some laptop DJ who mashes 2gether 'partie songs' for mainstream bros at frat parties to drink Keystone like and say 'Holy Effing Shit! This Roxx Yall I'm ready 2 partie.' Apparently he used to have 'alt cred' but I don't even rlly know any more. He recently released the album ALL DAY 4 free via his website, and I never even downloaded it even though it was free just bc I have sorta evolved beyond 'getting excited abt remixes/mashups/using the hypemachine to find crappy mp3s'.

It seems like for some reason, Pitchfork is really going out of their way 2 'praise' this Girl Talk album when it was ultimately some sort of 'mixtape' thingy. They gave it some sort of '8.2' rating, which is a small 1.8 points behind Kanye West's perfect 10.0.

They claim that God created Gregg Gillis 2 become a laptop DJ:

Gillis has figured out exactly what he was put on this earth to do-- transform five decades of pop music into seamless mixes, and then, live, turn those mixes into a sweaty, tribal celebration of pop music itself.

Nvr knew that p4k 'believed in God' but I guess that is chill/necessary 2 have a values system.

Here is some excerpt where they say he is better/more unique than any other mashup artist that u could find on hype machine:

If there are still holdouts, the arguments against Girl Talk are getting slimmer. Despite the sheer number of party DJs and bedroom mashup artists, All Day further proves nobody does it better than Gillis. Some have questioned his legitimacy as a DJ, suggesting an artlessness to his disregard for cratedigging, but almost as if baiting those detractors, Gillis goes even more mainstream with his source material on All Day.

Feels like they traveled back in time in some sort of 'time machine' and wrote this as a 'progressive music journalist from the year 2k2' or something:

It's fitting that Gillis released All Day for free online, so that everyone could have it at the same time: He wants nothing more than to recapture the thrill of a true communal pop experience.

I think this statement is supposed to say that 'indie is dead' and 'Kanye West deserved the 10.0 cuz we don't care abt music genres/labels any more':

When Girl Talk broke through in 2006 with Night Ripper, the album was often credited for reflecting the new listening habits afforded by the Internet, where long-held grudges were dropped, and pop, indie rock, classic AOR, and mainstream rap were on equal playing fields.

8.2
Didn't listen to the album, but feel like it probs deserved like a 6.7 probably. But it probably really deserved like a 4.2. I guess this means that Pitchfork is not 'washing its hands' of Greg Gillis yet, and he will potentially be playing Pitchfork Music Festival in Chicago this summer.

'You'll always be a mainstreamer, Gregg.'
'I'll always be a mainstreamer, me.' -u looking in the mirror at urself

Does Girl Talk 'know how 2 get the partie started'?
Do 'mashups' excite u any more, or do u want more out of mp3s/albums?
Will Girl Talk ever 'recapture the magic' of 2k6? Does it even matter if he has evolved as a DJ/producer/mix tape maker?
Do u think other DJs h8 Girl Talk?
Does any1 who is a DJ know if Girl Talk has 'legit skills' or is he just some sort of college bar DJ bro?

Some 'effing hipster' robs a bank

Posted: 28 Nov 2010 08:56 PM PST

Just read some 'press release' abt how some guy robbed a bank. Then there was some sort of 'security footage' of him, and he 'looked like an effing hipster' because he was wearing a messenger bag (to carry money), emo glasses (to evaluate his surroundings), and an 'ironic' cream colored sweater. His age range was 'effing twenty something.' He is also a 'very vegan' 150-170 lbs.

Really unsure as 2 whether or not this guy was a 'real hipster' or if he is just a mainstreamer pretending 2 be alt in order to 'throw off the cops' from finding him. Feel like every day tons of mainstreamers pretend 2 be alt for tons of miscellaneous reasons.

ASHEVILLE - Police were called at about 11:07 a.m. today regarding a bank robbery that occurred at 10 Woodfin St.

A white male with short brown hair who was wearing glasses came in and slid a note to a teller.

He did not display a weapon and did not speak. No one was injured.

The man was wearing jeans and a cream colored sweater and appeared to be 25-30 years old. He was described as being about 5'7", 150-170 lbs., and had stubble on his face. He was carrying a bag from Abercrombie & Fitch.

The suspect ran out of the building to the right, toward Woodfin Street.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at (828) 252-1110 or Crime Stoppers at 255-5050.

Kinda bummed 2 find out that his bag was 'Crombie.'

What do u think he used the money 2 buy?
'PBR'? 'Four Loko'?
'Did he ride off on a fixed gear bike?'
'Was he listening to Vampire Weekens, MANAGMANT, or PASHY PIT as he rode off on his vespa?'
'did he livestream the robbery to his twitter account?'
'do u think he wasted all of the money from his effing trustfund?'
'Did he use the money to start a Brooklyn based buzzband chillwave project?'
'do u think he was robbing from a bank that gave out buzz bucks?'
Have twenty-somethings 'hit rock bottom'?
Is this guy an 'effing hipster' or is this just 'worthless blog fodder'?

Did yall see this guy earlier today working at ur local Panera Bread?
do u h8 it when mainstreamers dress up as alts when they attend concerts/music festivals/the mall/the first day of school?
