Best Coast makes racist music video exploiting Chicano culture

"Chicano" is a Spanglish word for the Mexican Americans, also known as Mexicans who moved to America, escaping from Mexico to create a better life in the God blessed United States. Like many foreign peoples, Chicanos have their own customs and traditions which many white Americans don't 'understand.' One of these traditions is the Quinceañera, which is a celebration for your 15 year old daughter. From what I understand, it is the Mexican version of the 'Super Sweet Sixteen' [via MTV] except ur parents aren't loaded and they just have a BBQ in a public park. Ur lucky if they hire a DJ--most likely ur stuck with some Tejano tunes vibing out of ur parents' Suburban.

What do u think of this new video for Best Coast's new song "Boyfriend"?

It seems like Best Coast rode the gentrification wave by 'moving into the Latino part of town' and trying to make it seem cool and edgy. She hired some Mexican family and sponsored their daughter's quince in order to use them in their video. Wonder if she paid them in money, or if her label just offered 2 purchase the traditional Quinceañera dress + buy 20 lbs of meat from the local carneceria.

Kanye West is 'just another rapper' who sings abt 'banging chicks' and 'being the greatest', except every1 likes to pretend that he is a 'great artist' just because he utilizes gimmicks that are 'artsy' and dresses like a blipster. Not sure why ppl 'love' Kanye West so much. S000 boring 2 me. Not just because the rap genre is lame, but maybe I just resent products that lamestreamers utilize as a symbol of their multiculturalism / how they 'love' pop music as art, not just bc it is what is playing on the radio as they drive to their shitty job in their Honda Accord.

The XX are one of the most buzzworthy bands in the history of 2k9, getting tons of buzz and buzzing to buzzworthy praise album reviews abt how awesome they are as a buzzband that has buzzworthy things ahead of them in their future. Mercury Prize winners, the XX have joined forces with denim brand Lee to personalise their own on-stage denim jackets for the current tour. The XX chose Lee's iconic classic Rider Jacket originally created for cowboys and ranch workers back in the 1930s, which was one of the first denim jackets of its kind.
