My First Synth Recital

My mother asked me, “Do u want piano lessons?”
I said, “No.”
My father then asked me, “How about guitar lessons? You can rock n roll.”
I said, “No.”
My grandmother offered to pay for cello lessons.
She never loved me as much after I said, “No.”
My uncle offered me the right field position on my cousin’s little league team.
(I went to one practice, then quit. Basically said “No.”)

Every1 wanted to know
“What do u want 2 do?
What r ur interests?
What do u like?
What r u passionate about?”

After hearing tons of indie, bloghouse, and chillwave bands
I knew that I needed to learn more about synthesizers
I didn’t have time to waste learning mainstream skills
and I didn’t have time to translate my mainstream skills to fulfill my alternative needs

I wanted synthesizer lessons
I wanted an authentic collection of synths
2 take my buzzband solo proj to the next lev
This was the best decision I could make as an aspiring authentic alt

If they had ’sampler lessons’, I would take them
Maybe will grab a ‘minor’ in DJing
Maybe take a few ‘music business’ classes at my local college
Might also learn about maintaining a blog and a twitter feed

My parents think I want to go to school to ‘get smart and get a job’
but they don’t realize that school is just a place for me to network
to make fans, to make friends on ‘facebook’ to invite to my shows
to meet potential band mates (after my solo project takes off, I will select talented on-stage musicians, but make sure not to give them a cut of album sales)

This was all my dream
but first, it was time for synth lessons
My teacher was so chill
yet so demanding at the same time

Teaching me about synth history
Synth Settings
Even a little bit about recording techniques
and important perspectives on analog vs digital

He’d send me home with vinyls to listen to
teaching me that there was more to ’synth’
than just chillwave/LCD Soundsystem/bloghouse/modern shitty blog electro
I finally understood the importance of the synth in the modern global rock landscape

My parents came to the recital not knowing what to expect
My fingers pressed down on the keys
arpegiatting tons of rad shit
so many vibes, chill ass drum machine keeping the beat
The power of so many sounds
right at my finger tips

I could tell they were happy for me
because I was happy
for the first time I felt like I had a future
I was going to start a buzzband / record a hit EP that garnered tons of blog press
start a new genre of music
and capture the spirit of the modern alt

This was the beginning of a whole new life for me
Education is an important tool/process
But tons of mainstream educational opportunities are a waste of time
meant to make u feel like ur ‘part of a team’/'normalized’ even if u don’t acquire a skill

Sometimes parents just don’t understand
what’s culturally relevant
and what decisions they can make
to put u on the road towards being the mastermind behind a culturally relevant buzzband

Did u take any lessons as a kid?

Who can u construct an authentic alt super kid who makes his/her own decisions?
What types of lessons should alts offer to appeal to alt parents + their kids?

made ‘one great indie movie’ back before every1 realized that Garden State, The Royal Tenenbaums, and Lost in Translation all actually ’set back the art of filmmaking’ at least 20-50 years. She made Lost In Translation, a semi-autobiographical film where she ‘gets railed’ by an old guy (Bill Murray). Not sure that the movie actually ’said anything’ but it was ‘deep’ and it was ’set in Japan’ and Bill Murray ‘acted deep and disconnected’, so it was a ‘critical success.’ She has also made a few other indie films that appeal to empty indie broads who need to buy ‘cool looking movie posters’ for their rooms.

N e ways, is married to Thomas Mars, the French guy from Phoenix. She used Phoenix’s song “Love Like a Sunset” in her new trailer for the upcoming hollow indie film Somewhere. Movie seems ‘absolutely boring.’ Seems to be about a bro actor dad who has to take care of his daughter when he could be focusing on things like ‘being a bad ass bro’ and ‘fucking hot bitches.’

Sorta boring. Feel like maybe she shoulda cast Miley Cyrus / Demi Lovato in this movie if she wanted it to make mad bank.
Not really digging the Phoenix favoritism. Bet he probably gets ‘mad soundtrack royalties’ to feed their family. Not sure if this is fair. Not sure if studios should still make ‘indie films.’ They should probably just invest in Avatar / Toy Story 3D type of .

Sorta wonder what went wrong with Spike Jones and ’s marriage. Maybe Spike Jonze loves to work with the Arcade Fire so much because he wants them to sell more records than Phoenix.

MGMT: were they great on Fallon?

MGMT is a former buzzband whose latest album “Congratulations” has become the laughing stock of the entire alt internet, with many alt music websites taking ‘huge shots’ at them for being ‘a massive disappointment/failure.’ Even websites that were once neutral enablers of bland indie bands have pounced on the opportunity to ‘pan’ MGMT. Anyways, they went on Jimmy Fallon last weekend, since he ‘loves to harvest blog bands’ and try to brand his show as being ‘young, kewl, and down with anything that gets twitter buzz.’ Not sure if I vibed to these performances. He let them sing 2 songs for some reason.

Worried that MGMT bros look like the are just sorta ‘half assing it’, like they realized they have let every1 down, and don’t even want to be there any more. I would expect this type of heartless performance from a mainstream artist/athlete, but seeing a former indie buzzband ‘go down so hard’ just ‘breaks my heart.’

Should MGMT’s staff ‘quit their jobs’?

After the show ended, Jimmy Fallon seems to have made them play one of their old songs, just cuz he probably didn’t really like their second album. Just wanna live in the past, and pretend “Congratulations” never happened.

That girl from Harry Potter goes to Glastonbury Music Festival with some ultra alt dude

Emma Watson is female actress who plays ‘the girl’ in that Harry Potter movie. I think her name is “Hermione”, and she is supposed to ‘turn on’ young bros by offering a natural, yet sexie ‘barely legal’ type of look. Haven’t read Harry Potter, but I think they go to some school where they are trying to become Witch Doctors, and they all try to have a gang bang with this girl or something. Sorta a mix between X-men and Lord of the Rings.

Guess the real story is that Emma Watson is one of those celebs who ‘goes to music festivals’ to seem alt. Most importantly, she went to with this mega alt dude. From what I understand, Glastonbury is ‘the Coachella of the UK.’ Not sure if this mega alt dude is ‘authentic’ or if he just ‘dressed like an alt’ to impress her/fit in at the festival. Sorta jeal of him for hanging out with some1 famous. Maybe he is ‘just some rich bro’, and went to the festival to see MUSE or other crappy UK bands like that.

Seems like she chilled hard in some really functional festival gear. Wearing some sort of corset to ‘push up her lil boobs’ and get some more blog hits. Really vibing to this festival attire. Wonder if she got some solid ‘band photograph shots’ with her DSLR.

Toronto G20 protesters break windows of an American Apparel, spray store with feces

The G20 is some sort of summit that is designed to make the world a better place, uniting all of the world’s leaders to make group decisions together to help our global society. Every year, tons of ppl who h8 society decide to ‘protest.’ Not sure what they stand for, or if it is just a good excuse to ‘get crazy’. Wonder if they send strong messages to the global leaders/Illuminati who control the world, or if they are just a bunch of alts who are ‘actin crazy’ just 2 be alt.

N e ways, it seems like some anti- protesters shattered the windows of a Toronto American Apparel retail chain store. Feel like maybe they disagreed with the vibe/message of the company. Maybe they h8 retail, and h8 Abercrombie Appy. Maybe they were angry stock holders or something. Seems like they not only broke the windows, but sprayed feces with some sort of Super Soaker for poop into the store. Wonder if this is just ‘viral marketing advertising’, a meme jpg planted by the company just to get blog buzz. Feel like a ‘broken window’ probably costs less than an advertising campaign.

Rode by on my bike cuz I just wanted to buy some vnecks for the summer, but was mad bummed to find it closed + sprayed with feces.

Wonder if they have to wash all of their inventory because of all of the poop on the merchandise.

Sad 4 these mannequins. feel like they have alternative souls too, and don’t really appreciate being shat upon.
