Jay-Z goes to a baseball game with Eminem, seems disinterested in indie bands

Posted: 14 May 2010 11:59 AM PDT

Jay-Z attended a baseball game with Eminem, where the New York Yankees played against the Detroit Tigers. I am not sure if this was some sort of ‘promotional’ stunt or something, but I’m not really interested in Jay-Z and his music because he is a mainstream artist. Feels like tons of blogs ‘cream’ over his music, though, but it makes me confused because most of the blogs I read are ‘white, indie blogs’, then they will write about rap and use words like ‘represent, ‘respect’, and ’sliggas be sliggin.’

I remember back when Jay-Z used to be into indie bands. He’d go watch Beach House [link] and the XX [link]. He’d chill around the festival grounds of Coachella. He would watch indie buzzband Grizzly Bear at Brooklyn and ‘get his dance on.’ [link]

I feel sad that it was all just a joke. I get really pumped when mainstream artists and celebrities are into alternative culture, because it makes me feel like ‘we’ are right about the best music in the world. Feel let down that Jay-Z is a turncoat on indie music. Wonder if he is just ‘using’ the indiesphere to get authentic credibility. Feel like ‘every1 in the world likes him’, but I feel not very into him.

Whatevz. Have fun at ur baseball game with the wigger horrorcore rapper M&Ms.

R u pissed at Jay-Z?
Was he always mainstream, just sorta ‘misleading’ us?
Do u think he really likes indie bands, or was he just trying to get Pitchfork coverage?
Is Eminem going to start listening to the XX?
Will Jay-Z rap over the next Grizzly Bear album?
Do u think Jay-Z is only ‘into’ indie bands just to be nice to Beyonce and Solange?

VIDEO: Some alt buzzes off a section of her hair to be more authentic

Posted: 14 May 2010 11:35 AM PDT

Many alt girls have been asking whether or not they should shave off a section of their hair in order to elevate their personal brands to a higher plane of authenticity / existence. It seems like this girl vlogged her experience to become the ‘Joan of Arc’ / Oprah of girls who buzz off sections of their hair. I feel like I might go to my local drug store, buy some hair clippers and ‘take the plunge.’

Do u think ur gonna buzz off a section of ur hair?

Do girls who buzz off sections of their hair seem more ‘rugged and authentic’ than girls with long hair?

Do u think she is prettier with a buzzed section of hair?
Is she more likely to be mistaken for an ‘indie rock star’ now?
Do yall know any kewl emerging trends that can be blogged about on the internet?

Guy who invented NOW THAT’S WHAT I CALL MUSIC series is dead. Is he burning in hell?

The NOW that’s What I Call Music series is some sort of gimmick where you sell CDs to mainstreamers that contain a compilation of relevant hits from the past several months. I think the concept behind it is that people don’t want to buy the albums of performers when they only have 1 good song, they’d rather buy 1 album with 10-20 hits on it, even if they are from 20 different artists. Sorta like ‘listening to the radio’ except it is on CD.

NOW That’s What I Call Music has tons of commercials, and they probably trick people into overpaying for shipping & handling costs, plus other miscellaneous hidden / subscription fees. Not sure how it is still alive in the post-Napster era, but seems to be ‘going strong.’

Not sure if people even still buy CDs. Maybe just like minorities and poor white people who shop at WalMart. From what I understand, NOW CDs still ‘chart’ pretty high, since mainstream a-holes / the poors who listen to the radio still buy these CDs.
He seems chill enough, like a bro who is down to ‘get real’ in a brainstorming session.

, a music executive who signed the Sex Pistols, helped Jimmy Buffett set up his own record company and oversaw the popular compilation series "Now That's What I Call Music!," died on Wednesday in Los Angeles, where he lived. He was 65.

Does he seem like a chill bro who capitalized on a ‘good idea’?

Should I pick up a copy of Now: 75?

Does mainstream music get ’shittier’ or ‘better’ every year?

Or was it more authentic when NOW first came out in the 70s/80s, back when people still ‘bought hard copies of music.’

So much great music. maybe this bro was ‘on to something.’ Maybe he is a genius. Maybe he is in heaven, not hell.

Sorta just want to come up with an idea that changes the music industry / makes me a lot of money, even if the idea is sorta obvious/low-risk.

What is the ultimate NOW compilation of all time?

Should Pitchfork start releasing NOW compilations of indie bands, or does every1 already own every relevant mp3 for free?
Would U Buy NOW That’s What I Call Indie?
Should I just buy Kids Bop CDs for my kids?
Is NOW the ultimate mixtape?
Do u feel sad that the inventor of NOW died?
Do u think is chilling in heaven/hell with John Lennon/Charles Manson/____________?
Have u ever purchased a NOW CD?

Guy on Drugs attends a Washed Out concert, seems ‘out of it’/'way into it.’

Posted: 14 May 2010 06:02 AM PDT

Some guy attended a Washed Out concert in Houston, TX, and seems like he is ‘riding a wave that is beyond chill.’ Like he must be under the influence of some sort of drugs, maybe, or maybe he had too many ‘Lone Star Beers’ [via 'the Texan PBR'].

Part of me wonders if he is ‘on drugs’, or maybe he was just one of Washed Out’s first fans who is finally in a euphoric experience because he is finally ’seeing live.’ So weird when u see one of your fave blog stars live and in person. It is sometimes more rewarding than seeing a mainstream famous person. I think this is how most people are at Animal Collective concerts, but I am not sure if it is because people are spiritally moved by them, or if it is because AnCo is the new Grateful Dead.

Based on this bro’s body language, do u think u know what is up with him?
Do u think he ‘yacked’ outside of the club after the show?
Is he ‘the next alt meme’, or would it work better if he was a cute lil girl?
If u were standing next to this bro, would u tell him to ‘chill the eff out’ or would you sorta laugh at him or would you join him?
Is Washed Out attracting a lost techno bro crowd?

I feel worried about the legacy of now that it is sorta going on hiatus during the Buzz Drought of 2k10. Worried that it might get ‘mixed in’ with generic drug culture. Like people who are into Sublime will start listening to Washed Out.

Have u ever done drugs & ‘made a complete ass out of urself at a relevant concert’?
Have u ever done drugs? What do they feel like?
Who will have the longest career: Washed Out, Toro Y Moi, or Neon Indian?
