Jay-Z goes to a baseball game with Eminem, seems disinterested in indie bands Posted: 14 May 2010 11:59 AM PDT
I remember back when Jay-Z used to be into indie bands. He’d go watch Beach House [link] and the XX [link]. He’d chill around the festival grounds of Coachella. He would watch indie buzzband Grizzly Bear at Brooklyn and ‘get his dance on.’ [link] I feel sad that it was all just a joke. I get really pumped when mainstream artists and celebrities are into alternative culture, because it makes me feel like ‘we’ are right about the best music in the world. Feel let down that Jay-Z is a turncoat on indie music. Wonder if he is just ‘using’ the indiesphere to get authentic credibility. Feel like ‘every1 in the world likes him’, but I feel not very into him. Whatevz. Have fun at ur baseball game with the wigger horrorcore rapper M&Ms. R u pissed at Jay-Z? |

Do u think ur gonna buzz off a section of ur hair? Do girls who buzz off sections of their hair seem more ‘rugged and authentic’ than girls with long hair? |

NOW That’s What I Call Music has tons of commercials, and they probably trick people into overpaying for shipping & handling costs, plus other miscellaneous hidden / subscription fees. Not sure how it is still alive in the post-Napster era, but seems to be ‘going strong.’ Not sure if people even still buy CDs. Maybe just like minorities and poor white people who shop at WalMart. From what I understand, NOW CDs still ‘chart’ pretty high, since mainstream a-holes / the poors who listen to the radio still buy these CDs.
Does he seem like a chill bro who capitalized on a ‘good idea’? Should I pick up a copy of Now: 75? Or was it more authentic when NOW first came out in the 70s/80s, back when people still ‘bought hard copies of music.’ So much great music. maybe this bro was ‘on to something.’ Maybe he is a genius. Maybe he is in heaven, not hell. Sorta just want to come up with an idea that changes the music industry / makes me a lot of money, even if the idea is sorta obvious/low-risk. What is the ultimate NOW compilation of all time? |

Part of me wonders if he is ‘on drugs’, or maybe he was just one of Washed Out’s first fans who is finally in a euphoric experience because he is finally ’seeing Ernest Greene live.’ So weird when u see one of your fave blog stars live and in person. It is sometimes more rewarding than seeing a mainstream famous person. I think this is how most people are at Animal Collective concerts, but I am not sure if it is because people are spiritally moved by them, or if it is because AnCo is the new Grateful Dead. Based on this bro’s body language, do u think u know what is up with him? I feel worried about the legacy of chillwave now that it is sorta going on hiatus during the Buzz Drought of 2k10. Worried that it might get ‘mixed in’ with generic drug culture. Like people who are into Sublime will start listening to Washed Out. |
