MUSIC VIDEO: RATTYTAT THE BIRD – “Born at a Free Party with My Girls”

RattyTat the Bird is the lovable bird who is the current mascot / band member of Ratatat. He gained massive notoriety after the success of the video for “Party With Children” [link], which featured the albino parakeet broing down, chilling hard, and just getting his bird thang on. He resonated with many authentic alts in the indie community, since he was an uncompromisingly natural meme, helping us to get in touch with the singular animal within all of us.

It seems like he has ‘outgrown’ Ratatat, and decided to go solo, managing his own brand and career in the modern indie landscape. It seems like his debut mp3 is an innovative collaboration with and M.I.A. In the video, we witness Rattytat the Bird traveling through an alternative cartoon universe with 3 bros playing some unknown instruments.

Eventually Rattytat finds himself witnessing some Ginger Genocide first hand. Wonder what it is like to watch a ginger get shot in the head.

I feel like RattyTat might really be in touch with humanity, and might be the artist to lead us out of the great Buzz Drought of 2k10. I feel like he really understands music, art, memes, and the buzzosphere, and provides us with a fun outlet to break free from our regular lives’ on the internet.

He knows what it is like to live thru a Ginger genocide.

He just wants to jam with bros, fly above chillwaves, dipping down into the blissful water to take relevant dips.

Do u like the song “Born at a Free Party with My Girls”?
Is RattyTat the bird the most important indie artist of 2k10?
Did he make the right decision to leave Ratatat?
Did he make the right decision to collab with AnCo and M.I.A.?
Is he officially the buzzworthiest band of 2k10?
Will Ratatat inspire a multitude of meme maships?
Who will save us from the Buzz Drought of 2k10?
Will it take a super meme?

Shakira has new song, samples/steals/sings over The XX

Posted: 13 May 2010 12:22 PM PDT

Have u heard of popular 2k9 buzzband The XX? Their hyped album ‘Remember the X’ was one of the most favouritest albums of 2k9, and they continued to go mainstreamier, acquiring more fans as each blog day went by.

It seems like this might be their official ‘crossover point.’ , the ethnic lady with a big ass and froggy voice, sang over their song “Islands” in a new song by her called “Explore.” I am not sure if she straight up ’stole’ their riff, or if The XX are getting paid ‘mad bank’ for giving her their music. Not sure if I am supposed to be ‘proud’ of the XX, or if I should be ‘pissed off’, tweet at them about ’selling out’, and promise myself never to download their MP3 leaks for free ever again.

Do u think ‘fixed’ the original song or did she ruin it? Do u like froggy ethnic vocals, or phone sex vocals more?

Always thought Jay-Z was gonna be the first mainstream artist to sample some minimal XX guitar riff, but I guess ‘beat his ass.’ Wonder which indie artist is ‘next’ to be utilized by a mainstream musician. Wonder if the XX only cares about making money, and don’t really care about making buzz mp3s for their early adopter audience.

R u proud of the XX?
R u still gonna listen to them, or are u ‘fucking done’ with them for 1 year?
Do u just wanna chill out with Apollo Anton Ohno and , and listen to some vibed out minimalist indie?
Will replace the forgotten ethnic member of the XX who they ‘booted’?

Is gonna save the XX from the ’sophomore MGMT slump’?

Some snarky artists put up sign in Williamsburg that says DO NOT FEED THE HIPSTERS

Posted: 13 May 2010 08:30 AM PDT

From what I understand, tons of artists are ‘trying to go viral’ after Banksy/Shepard Fairey got famous for being vandals with a progressive message about society, content sharing, intellectual property, Obama, consumerism, global issues, art, privacy, Big Brother, public safety, and just about any other relevant buzz topic. Tons of artists are trying to ‘get their guerrilla on’ to garner fame + credibility. Some ‘art collective’ called Trustocorp made an easily memeable sign about not feeding hipsters and put it at McCarren Park in Williamsburg, the home of the Hipster Olympics.

Does n e 1 know if ‘hipsters’ really live in Williamsburg/Brooklyn, or is that an outdated stereotype?
Do u think more people saw this sign in person, or on the internet?
Is it an artist’s job to impact a space, or to create an easy-to-capture photo/video meme of their art in order to reach a larger audience?

Wonder if Trustocorp is going to be able to garner authentic respect in the art world if the best meme they can come up with is ‘Do Not feed The Hipsters.’ Seems like it might have staying power, like the type of thing a mainstreamer will put in her facebook feed in 2 years, but maybe not enough ‘meme pizazz’ to be considered ‘art’ instead of ‘a meme.’ Worried that the sign wasn’t visually captivating enough, like the symbol of ‘hipster’ didn’t make much sense.

What would u have done to make this sign more worthy of ‘being a sharable meme’?

Is this sign ’snarky’?
Are you still into ‘hipster bashing’?
Do u know what ‘hipsters’ are fed? Nuggets of culture? Buzz mp3s? vegan baked goods? Chili’s?
R u gonna move to Brooklyn one day to launch your art project / chillwave sound project?
Is Williamsburg in New York or Virginia?
Will u make money from ur studio art degree if all u can do is make memes?
Are Brooklyn based memes more successful than other memes because you can include the word ‘hipster’ in the headline?

Solange Knowles discovers cool new blog called HIPSTER RUNOFF, tweets abt it

Posted: 13 May 2010 06:40 AM PDT

After several posts questioning the indie credibility of Solange Knowles [link 1] [link 2], and other posts documenting Jay-Z + Beyonce Knowles attending coachella/other indie concerts [link 1] [link 2], Solange Knowles has found out about the popular mainstream alt indie mp3 music culture blog HIPSTER RUNOFF. She has ‘come under intense scrutiny’ by many indie web journalists, claiming that she is ‘faking’ her affinity towards indie artists just to exploit a niche market that wants mainstream approval.

Solange recently tweeted about how she found a new bloggyspot called hipster runoff, and it is ‘mad legit’ / full of ‘lols.’ She claims that Carles is one of the most important music journalists of the modern indie alt era, and possibly shared the link with Beyonce [via iPhone Messenger].

Beyonce and Solange shared many lols abt the blog, then reflected on hipster culture.

In addition, popular post-’it girl’ was like ‘u’ve never heard of the hipster runsoff.

(really not sure who this girl is, but I heard she is ‘big in Britain’)

Then Solange was all like ‘hells naw’, and used the term ‘blipster’ ™, which was invented by Carles.

Do blipsters have their own sites, or do they still just hang out on myspace [via minorities]?
Wonder if this means that HIPSTER RUNOFF has ‘crossed over’?
Is Carles ‘in bed’ with alternative celebrities / Solange Knowles?
Will HRO ‘be compromised’ in this new era of ‘fame’ + ‘critical acclaim’ from alt celebs?
Is the blogosphere just the process of websites ‘cozying up’ to artists for exclusives?
Should blogs be ‘bros’ with the content that they cover?
Once a blog is ‘bros’ with an artist, are they allowed to ‘pan’ them any more, or has this sort of guilt enabled many bands to have a career that lasted longer than it should have?
Which artists are ‘in bed’ with which blogs?
Do artists get higher scores from Pitchfork if they ‘bro down’ with the staff, and give them solid content?
Does Solange Knowles have ‘more indie cred’ because she is into the H-Ro, or is she ‘effing mainstream’ because HRO has ‘gone down the shitter’ over the past year?

New Twilight Movie has another indie soundtrack, Vampire Weekend ‘headlines’ tracklist

Posted: 13 May 2010 06:02 AM PDT

I sorta wonder if headlining a Soundtrack is the new version of headlining a relevant music festival just because it is pretty mainstream, but also kinda ‘indie’ in a ceremonial kinda way. From what I understand, is an international phenomenon because tween girls aren’t allowed to date, but they are encouraged to read books, so they kinda ‘get wet’ when they read about vampire bros who want to make love to loner girls. Seems like they are trying to make the movie brand ‘all cool’ by harvesting buzzbands, but the bands might become ‘uncool’ if they end up on too many chunky girls’ iPods.

I remember the last Soundtrack when Grizzly Bear and Lykke Li were on it. Wonder if they are ‘less special’ now that just went and got a bunch of other indie ass bands to ‘rock’ during the movie. Hope these bands are ‘getting mad bank.’

Which band seems like the most authentic band on this soundtrack, or do they all ‘effing blow’?

The Saga: Eclipse soundtrack:

01 Metric: “Eclipse (All Yours)”
02 Muse: “Neutron Star Collision (Love Is Forever)”
03 The Bravery: “Ours”
04 Florence and the Machine: “Heavy in Your Arms”
05 Sia: “My Love”
06 Fanfarlo: “Atlas”
07 The Black Keys: “Chop and Change”
08 The Dead Weather: “Rolling in on a Burning Tire”
09 Beck and Bat For Lashes: “Let’s Get Lost”
10 Vampire Weekend: “Jonathan Low”
11 UNKLE: “With You in My Head [ft. the Black Angels]”
12 Eastern Conference Champions: “A Million Miles an Hour”
13 Band of Horses: “Life on Earth”
14 Cee-Lo Green: “What Part of Forever”
15 Howard Shore: “Jacob’s Theme”

Is this a ’solid ass’ soundtrack that will take this movie franchise to the next level?
Will tweens think this soundtrack has gone ‘too indie’?
Does alt = mainstream?
Do u think the Vampire Weekend song on this soundtrack will be ‘dark’, bleepy bloopy, or chamber wave?
Do u think it is ‘alt’ 2 say that Vampire Weekend ’sold out’ or does it not even matter because they are the most successful indie band of the new decade?
Do fans care about ‘indie bands going mainstream’ or are we used 2 it by now, so the backlash ends up being more of a post-ironic type of event?
Do u think there is a scene in the movie where 2 vampires have sex, then they look at eachother and say “looks like it’s gonna be a vampire weekend…” then Vampy Weeks starts playing?
Might just make a mix CD for a fat fan girl and put a shit load of Paramore on it.

Did yall ever sit next to a kid in high school who claimed he was a vampire?

NSFW: Former Human Meme “The HIPSTER GRIFTER” gets naked to stay internet famous

Posted: 12 May 2010 08:02 PM PDT

I remember there was this story about some human meme named The Hipster Grifter [link]. She was some AZN girl who moved from Utah to Brooklyn, and plowed a trail of fraud + broken hearts. Promised she’d give a bunch of bros blow jobs and other sillie sex stories that gave tons of altbros AZNgirl hardons. She would like sleep with alt dudes then steal their credit cards and guitars, and stuff like that, except it was more meme-able. Also would lie to bros about having cancer so that they would pay for her chemo.

N e ways, I think she went to jail in Utah for a while, then got released, then got a job blogging at Animal NY. I think it was probably their model to ‘capitalize on her blog fame’ to get more hits, but maybe she doesn’t really have a sustainable meme life, and she is draining their profits/advertising revenue. Apparently she said she didn’t have any snarky commentary to write, so she just ‘got naked’ and showed off her goods.

Do u think she has more to contribute 2 society on an intellectual level, or should she ‘just get naked’ and ’show off her AZN goods’?

‘Dear Lord. Always wanted a chest tatty cum target.’

‘what a sweet AZN ass’. Wonder if she coulda won the Am Appy Best Bottom Contest.

Thanks 4 the nips.

Does the hipster grifter have the perfect alternative breasts?

Do u think the Hipster Grifter is sorta similar to Tila Tequila. They were ‘microfamous’ for a little while, but now they are just ‘being all slutty’ to try to maintain their ‘fame’?
Do u miss the hipster grifter? Was she an overrated human meme?
Do u think this got Animal NY ‘mad hits’ or were they possibly disappointed that it didn’t get them more?
In 100 blog years, will u still remember the Hipster Grifter?

See u later,
Grifty
