HIPSTER RUNOFF

HIPSTER RUNOFF

Have yall ever been super drunk, & forced yourself to throw up?

Sometimes I have crazy nites and I drink a lil bit too much.
Putting so much alcohol in my body to run away from the pain
the pain of my childhood, my parents’ divorce
Feeling ‘left out’, unloved, and misunderstood for so much of my life
until I finally reached a place filled with alternative young people
who have the same interests + goals as me

Some nights, I just drink and drink and drink and drink
like the more I drink, the more fun I will have
the more I drink, the more people will like me
the more I drink, the more authentic my life will become

But then it all backfires
and my tummie starts to feel sillie
I start thinking about what I ate today
‘U only had Chili’s, but that was 12 hours ago.’

Was my body really ready to handle a chugalug of beer / liquor / wine /absynthe / etc
Is my stomach in panic mode?
Did I push too hard to make this night meaningful?
Will I regret this in the morning if I don’t force my body to eject the excess alcohol and sugar?

Excuse myself from my friends & the party hosts
Stepping outside into a desolate alley
putting my finger down my throat
hoping a thick stream of alcohol / vomit will flow from my mouth.

Dry heave
Tears running down my face, eyes popping out of sockets
I can feel a warm stew of vomit coming down my food pipe
I made a mistake.

‘thar she blows’ I think as the vomit shoots from my mouth
Try my best to clear out my stomach
the more I eject, the better I will feel?

I vomited
all over my shoes
hunched over like a pathentic loser
while inside, the relevant party / concert / art opening / show continues
but I was just 1 bro
who drank 2 much 2 fast
didn’t eat enough

Don’t really feel as good as I thought I would
even though I threw up
and totally ruined my shoes

(gonna be a bitch to clean them tomorrow)
Does n e 1 know how I can get vomit off my shoes?

Maybe I am just another ‘drunk girl’ [via LCD Soundsystem]
Maybe alcohol is bad 4 u
Maybe I should only eat organic products
Maybe I need 2 be more careful

Trying to live life 2 the fullest
Trying 2 drink enough 2 forget
‘I made a lot of mistakes’ -Sufjan Stevens

Have u ever forced yourself to throw up when you got too drunk?
What is the zaniest food / beverage that you have thrown up?
What is the most authentic venue to throw up at?
Have you ever thrown up on a buzzband during a concert?
Do u have any tips for holding down ur alcohol?

M.I.A. makes violent music video about Ginger Genocide

Posted: 26 Apr 2010 02:43 PM PDT

M.I.A. made some violent music video about Ginger Genocide. I think it really ‘went over the top’ trying to be shocking, or something. She basically hired the same guy who did ’s “Stress” video, and they tried to make something that got tons of attention for being ‘controversial.’ I think indie music videos have to be violent, because so many indie fans got tired of artsy music videos that were shot in front of a green screen, so now they are going to ‘raw realism’ or something.

The video seems like it is about ginger genocide, since they rounded up a bunch of gingers, then killed them all.

Not sure if I even paid attention to the song “Born Free” that was utilized tin the background. Wonder if it has a positive message or anything.

Didn’t really understand the plot, but for some reason there was an old fat couple having sex at the beginning. I think that was just to get your attention with some grandma tits, or something.

I feel confused about what M.I.A. is ’standing up for.’ I used to think she was standing up for some social issue in Sri Lanka, but now it seems like she is about standing up for Ginger Rights. Do u think Red Heads were created equally, or should they be ostracized / naturally selected out?

Climax of the video comes when a ginger starts running for his life.

Steps on a lil land mine

his body explodes. S000 graphic yall

Hey look. It’s hand. Seems like ‘real violence.’ S0 raw and uncut.

I wonder if this was a real torso, or if they just used cow meat or something. Seriously looks like a piece of cow b4 it is cut into ribeye steaks or something.

Do u think they blew up a real ginger when they made this video?

Did M.I.A. rip off ’s “stress” video?

Is M.I.A. trying too hard to ride ‘the Ginger Meme’ of 2k9?

Did u even listen to the M.I.A. song, or did u watch the violence?
Does M.I.A. abuse violence?
Should M.I.A. sing about motherhood, kinda like how Animal Collective sings about family values + fatherhood?
Do u wish M.I.A. would just ‘chill the eff out’ and sing about wanting 4 walls and Adobe Slabs 4 her girls?
Will you boycott the M.I.A. album because you love America more than you love M.I.A.?
Do Gingers have rights?
Is M.I.A. ‘a disaster’?
Will M.I.A. crossover into the tween mainstream if she keeps making these violent videos?
Should M.I.A. get tons of plastic surgery and try 2 become the next Rihanna?

Progressive Marketing? M.I.A.’s marketing push begins by taking over Pitchfork’s twitter

Posted: 26 Apr 2010 11:48 AM PDT

Pitchfork media has close to 1.5 million followers on the popular lifestreaming service, twitter. In a progressive marketing tactic, M.I.A.’s marketing firm must have paid Pitchfork to let her tweet from their account. I am not sure if this is ‘innovative marketing’ or if it is something that will ‘backfire’ for both the Pitchfork brand and the M.I.A. brand. M.I.A. has been known to say controversial things, usually about how she hates the United States government, or she will post graphic images.

It’s an exciting day here at Pitchfork. We’ve turned our Twitter over to Maya Arulpragasam herself!

That’s right, all day, M.I.A. will be Tweeting from Pitchfork’s account. So head over to http://twitter.com/pitchforkmedia to follow the madness. Who knows what she’ll post– we sure don’t! Every one of M.I.A.’s Tweets will be marked with the hashtag #miap4k, so you can more easily keep up.

It seems like they are trying to make the hashtag #miap4k ‘go viral’ / become a trending topic.

I feel like M.I.A.’s goal is to try to crossover into mainstream markets with her new album. I am not sure if targeting the same internet indie fans will ‘do her any good.’ I think she just needs to write Paper Planes 2.0, and hope that the tweens will purchase it.

Do u think this is ‘progressive marketing’?
Do u think other blogs and music magazines will ‘be pissed’ that they weren’t used for marketing purposes, and sort of ‘hold it against her’ when they evaluate / cover her album?
Since M.I.A. and Pitchfork are now co-branded, can we expect her to receive a 10.0?
R u going to unfollow @pitchforkmedia?
Is Pitchfork Media ‘in bed’ with M.I.A.?
Will M.I.A. tweet a picture of a person having sex with a dead body?
Does marketing ruin everything authentic?
What can we trust in if we can’t trust in Pitchfork ratings?

St. Vincent “completely butchers” an INXS cover

Posted: 26 Apr 2010 06:35 AM PDT

For some reason, Beck invited a bunch of people to chill in a studio and record a bunch of covers. They also hired bros with HD Cameras to film it, and make sure it looked like an authentic jam sesh. St. Vincent a.k.a. Annie Clark was one of ppl who was invited, and a bunch of people covered ’s hit anthem “Need You Tonight.”

It seems like she had never really heard the song before, but then tried to apply the cutesy indie girl voice aesthetic to it. Had to read the lyrics off a lyric sheet. Sorta wasn’t vibing with the song, like she was ‘forced to sing it’, then sort of half-assedly played some guitar riffs at the end. I feel bad about this cover. Apparently the lead singer of killed himself via auto-erotic asphyxiation while he was on a ’shit load of drugs.’ Whenever I hear the song “Need You Tonight”, I think of a tortured man who just wants to get off in the dirtiest way possible. Feel like St. Vincent was ‘up against the odds’, and would have a difficult time with this song unless she got ‘extremely dark’ in a personal/sexual type of way.

Wonder if there are some songs that just shouldn’t be ‘covered.’ Wonder if covering is more authentic than covering the Beatles?

I wonder if you should even be allowed to cover this song if you haven’t been choked during an orgasm?

Still feeling bummed about the ‘cover version’ of this. Maybe since it was a group of a bunch of bros connecting, then they sorta had to let the girl do her thing, then they posted it, even though they weren’t 100% proud of it.

Who is the better Australian band: or Savage Garden?
Is Beck the #1 pop writer of our generation?
Is Beck alt or mainstream?
Will St. Vincent become a scientologist because she chilled with Beck?
Have you ever lost consciousness right after an orgasm?
What is the cheesiest / most authentic band 2 cover?

Hacker who is responsible for Crystal Castles leak was identified, is ‘fucked.’

Posted: 26 Apr 2010 06:02 AM PDT

Apparently every magazine and music website uses a ’secure service’ to listen to albums before they are released. I guess they have to form their opinions before normal consumers are able to create their own opinions. According to the Village Voice, “PlayMPE is the preferred industry vehicle these days as far getting records to critics ahead of the official release date.” Some bro apparently hacked this PlayMPE service, then leaked some sweet albums including Crystal Castles by Crystal Castles.

PlayMPE is a digital delivery system that plays a key behind-the-scenes role in the music industry — it's one of a handful of technologies that record labels use to distribute advance, watermarked albums, to blogs, magazines, and a variety of other publications. PlayMPE (and its parent company, Destiny Media) charge record labels to "securely" deliver their music to its intended recipient. But now, their system has been compromised by a hacker. In an email being sent out to labels and managers the company claims, “A hacker managed to obtain a Play MPE account last week and found an exploit in the Play MPE Direct-to-Web player that allowed him access to your release, even though he was not on the recipient lists. We promptly disabled the offending account and closed this exploit on Monday but by then your album had been accessed.”

Do you think these magazines + music critics really need albums before any one else, or is the internet fast enough to get every1 the album release in a reasonable amount of time? If critics didn’t create an opinion before the album was released, would regular consumers be able to form an opinion?

Worried about the hacker bro. Seems like he might lose his internet privileges, or he will have to pay a lot of money to some1.

We have learned that this hacker has been identified. According to PlayMPE, they “already have his first and last name, country and city of residence, photo, and an array of other identifying info.” We’ve also heard he is a teenager, from overseas, and that legal action is being looked at by all involved. It looks like he probably shouldn’t have been bragging about his exploits online.

Are teenagers from overseas more skilled than teenagers in America? Seems like American teens only really know how to facebook and tweet, not really how programming works.

Apparently the hacked ‘bragged’ on some message boards after he threw down the hack

Is this Play MPE’s fault for offering a flawed service?
Who is at fault for this security breach?
Have u ever done something illegal, then tweeted about it, then had to spend a year in jail?
Will Crystal Castles’ new album be the most lucrative album of 2010 because they just get to sue PlayMPE + the hacker for theoretical profits?
If Crystal Castles’ album underperforms, can they just blame the hacker, then make a new album in 2 years?
Can you get in trouble for downloading leaked albums?
Is there a new cyber army that is trying to leak every buzzworthy album?

Every time an , are we ‘freed’ as consumers?
Do most albums leak because no1 can keep a secret / every1 wants 2 share + prove how they have access to the most relevant tunes b4 n e 1 else?
