Linkin Park makes an iPhone game for their angsty + minority + gamer fan base

Posted: 31 Mar 2010 02:57 PM PDT

Linkin Park is one of the most popular bands on the planet since they sing songs that angsty teens can identify with. Whether you are a minority, an AZN, a gamer, or a bro who drinks Mountain Dew alone in his room that is dimly lit with the glow of a computer screen, Linkin Park has become the ultimate prophet / psychologist / bro of a band.

It seems like Linkin Park made an iPhone app to ‘appeal to their fan base.’ It seems to be some sort of ‘vintage’ 8 bit video game played on an iPhone. iPhone is apparently the new Gameboy for tweens. Bands are always encouraged by ’social media experts’ to do something new and exciting that gets ur fan base ‘excited.’ I think their fans like to play video games, but probably ones where you kill other humans, or maybe ones where you travel to other planets to kill aliens.

According to the trailer, the 8-bit thing comes into play musically, because the game “features original and 8-bit versions of some of their greatest hits.” It also references the band’s gaming roots, which include a lot of standards, according to Shinoda.

“My bandmates and I grew up playing games like ‘Metroid,’ ‘Donkey Kong,’ ‘Zelda,’ ‘Space Invaders,’ ‘Mega Man’ and ‘Rygar,’” he said. “We wanted this game to have the feel of a vintage game, and a big part of it was the music.”

Should I buy an iPhone so I can be a better Linkin Park fan?

Is Linkin Park the modern U2?
Do u want to hear 8 bit versions of Linkin Park songs?
Should Linkin Park become an indie 8 bit band?
Whatever happened to Crystal Castles wave 8 bit dance music blog house?
Are Linkin Park fans iPhone users, or are they poor tweens who are lucky if they got an iPod touch for Christmas?
Are iPhones the new Game Gears / Game Boys?
Is Linkin Park the most innovative band of the 21st century?
Should indie bands make video games?

Zooey Deschanel’s new album debuts at #6 on the Billboard charts

She & Him is a musical band that consists of Zooey Deschanel and M Ward. Even though I have never found their music to be ‘good’, they apparently have a fan base. They ‘debuted’ at #6 on the Billboard charts. Grizzly Bear once charted at #6. Remember when Vampire Weekend debuted at #1?

The final new arrival in the top 10 this week belongs to She & Him with its second album, fittingly titled “Volume Two.” It starts at No. 6 with 47,000. That trumps the peak and best sales week of the duo’s first set, “Volume One,” which topped out at No. 71. (Its best sales frame — 10,000 — came a week earlier when it debuted on the list at No. 81.)

She & Him sold 200,000 less copies than Justin Bieber.
Is Joanna Newsom ‘pissed’ that her album didn’t sell as well as Zooey Deschanel’s?
Did She & Him see a ‘Ben Gibbard bounce’ via Death Cab fans trying to ‘buy a way into his soul’?
Did M Ward inspire some of these album sales? Does he have fans?
Is She & Him a ‘good band’?
Should they still be ‘ covered’ by the indie blog media?
I feel like She & Him probably benefits from not having any fans who know how to illegally download albums.
Do u know any She & Him fans?

Is She & Him music for ‘campy bitches’?

Should Zooey Deschanel ditch that bro and ‘go solo’, and get into Pussy Cat Doll-esque shape?

Will pitchfork ‘pan’ She & Him?
Would u rather spend the rest of ur life listening to the new She & Him or the new MGMT?

Are Ravers basically electro juggalos?

Part of me gets confused whenever I see a raver. I am not sure if they are actually into raves / techno / drugs, or if it just a one night thing. Like a bunch of tweens going to an indie show, dressing up as Am Appy ‘hipsters.’ Maybe there are authentic ravers, and then there are people who go to a rave for 1 night, and just pretend that they are ravers.

Have u ever been 2 a rave?
Do some people treat life like it is a rave?
Does the ‘rave’ really a cultivate a legitimate subculture, or just an excuse for people to do drugs?

Honestly wonder if ravers are electro . These people seem like they are on their way to the Gathering of the

Just wanna get fucked up on pills, then end up dehydrated, falling asleep in an empty field

Have u ever gone to a party / rave with a group of bros, and yall decided to wear a uniform costume? Might dress up as boy scouts with my bros. We found a sweet deal on a few shirts at our local Goodwill.

Might just dress up in Urban Camo

I feel like this person looks like an authentic raver, truly dedicated to ‘the subculture.’

I wonder if ravers are trying to ‘evolve’ the scene, or if they just want things to stay the same. If they just want to get fucked up in abandoned warehouses.

Hey. It’s me. Rave Bro.

I wonder if this bro is some sort of electro lost boy

Might become ‘thong bro’ and show off my firm ass to ‘Drunk Girls’ after hearing the new LCD Soundsystem song

Will buy a souvenir from the Major Lazer merch booth

will show off my sweet tats

Inauthentic or authentic ravers? Is ‘raver’ just a costume?

Will get so fucked up that I even squeeze ketchup on to a hot dog, even though ketchup as a hotdog condiment makes u an inauthentic hot dog eater

Wonder what ever happened to the popular HRO meme/tugworthy skank: the XX broad?

Just want to go to a rave, get really effed up, then make love to a girl who looks like Margot Tenenbaum

Have u ever gone 2 a rave?
Is it still alt to try to look like a character from the Royal Tenenbaums?
Is putting ketchup on a hot dog inauthentic?
Are ravers a legitimate ’subculture’ or are they the ‘ass wipe’ of alt culture?
If u could live ur life over again, would u drop out of HS and dedicate ur life to throwing sick raves?
What is the most alt drug to do at a rave? ‘beer’?
Are ‘ravers’ more like to ‘hipsters’ or ‘’?

Is a topless female DJ more interesting than a bro DJ? (NSFW)

Posted: 31 Mar 2010 06:40 AM PDT

DJs and DJ culture seem to have ‘peaked’ some time during the blog house era, but I think they still have a lot of die hard niche fans. Even though Daft Punk, Justice, Girl Talk, and other mainstream DJs are no longer in the relevantcoveragesphere, there are still tons of DJs / producers trying to ‘make it’ in the scene.

This topless DJ seems to be a solid human / meme, because she is just following her dream of being a DJ, but also ‘getting topless’ so that people pay attention to her. Most people don’t like female DJs.

Do u still want to be a DJ or do u want to be in a buzzband?

It seems like you could really monitor the quality of her set by watching her nipples get hard and soft. Like u know she’s really ‘into it’ and maxing out the bass when her nipples are hard.

Damn. Seems like I would really ‘pay attention’ to her set.

Feel sad seeing so many bro DJs all the time. They are just trying to break thru…just trying to build a brand that makes other bros want to be their bro. Sometimes it seems easier to be a woman, even though u will probably never get ‘authentic respect.’

Will topless DJs revolutionize the DJ industry?
Will topless DJs take over the strip club industry?
Are females sex objects?
Should women be required to do their jobs naked?
Can u do a better job as a DJ with no shirt since ur connected 2 the universe, and u get to play the right songs according to the ‘vibe’?
Can u ‘crossover’ as a topless DJ, or do you have to just make sure you put your shirt on whenever there are ‘minors’ around?

Feist does an impression of a ‘filthy Mexican’ in an unfunny Canadian ‘web short’

Posted: 31 Mar 2010 06:05 AM PDT

Feist is known as the most successful female indie artist of all time, except for maybe Karen O or the broad from Peter Bjorn and John’s “Young Folks.” She has been ‘completely off the map’ since her hit album The Reminder, but it seems like she is ‘back’ and playing some zany character in a web short done by a ‘Canadian comedy troupe’ or something. In this ‘web short’ she portrays some sort of Mexican.

I tried to watch it, but sort of just flipped around. Saw an unfunny dude, some unfunny story line, then saw Feist ‘act like a Mexican with a moustache’ then she danced around as some1 controlled her with a joy stick. (Skip to 5:30 mark to get some Feist action. She gets her ‘physical comedy’ on and talks with a Mexican accent.) Can some1 watch it and tell me if it worth sitting thru all 7 minutes?

In the latest episode of “Spookey Ruben’s Dizzy Playground”– an absurd web series courtesy of Exclaim! and Canadian musician and director Spookey Ruben– Leslie Feist plays an Old West bandit who is at the mercy of a video game joystick. Or something. Did we mention Feist has a mustache in it?

Wonder if her character is ‘racist.’ Seems risky to portray a Mexican and isolate the Mexican / Latino demographic, but maybe Canadians don’t really understand how certain Mexican portrayals are ‘racist’ since they probably don’t have a lot of Mexi

Is Feist racist? Sorta racist, like the Frito Bandito

or maybe Speedy Gonzales

or maybe as racist as Carlos Mencia

Is Feist a racist?
Do Canadians know anything about ?
Do know anything about Canadians?
Do Americans know about both + Canadians cuz we are the meat in the North American sandwich?
Is Canada overrated as an exporter of comedy [via Kids in the Hall / Lorne Michaels ]?
Will Feist’s next album be ’solid’ or will it get too much ‘hype’?
Is it time to forget about Broken Social Scene and just focus on Feist?

American Apparel Gift Certificate offered as Prize on the Price is Right

Posted: 30 Mar 2010 07:26 PM PDT

The Price is Right is a popular game show that unemployed moms and old ladies watch every day. The show is basically a long advertisement, and people just guess how much stuff is worth in order to win prizes. The show will most likely die when Gen Xers begin to pass away.

Video Description: One lucky Price is Right contestant is offered the chance to win $1500 American Apparel gift certificate.

American Apparel was utilized as a ‘prize’ giveaway during the Price is Right. This might mean that is trying to reach grand parents and old people, letting them know that their brand is real / dependable. Maybe they just want to inspire old people to buy gift cards for their teens.

Did American Apparel reach a new market with the Price is Right segment?
If you were an old person, would appeal 2 u?
Is American Apparel ‘crossing over’?
Does it cost money to get ur product placed on the Price is Right?
Do u wish u could win an gift certificate from this show, or would u rather have the best bottom in the world?
Do u wish u were on the Price is Right so u could guess how much kitchen appliances were worth?
