Is the Text-And-Walk the Official Chill Bro Position at SXSW? Posted: 22 Mar 2010 04:05 PM PDT Several years ago at SXSW, the popular internet service twitter ‘went viral.’ Since then, SXSW has been branded as a conference that will create ‘the next big thing’ in all aspects of consumer / internet / cultural life. This year at SXSW, the popular trend that emerged was ‘texting while walking.’ Many text-and-walk purists claim that this posture / position has been around since cell phone texting and/or walking were invented. The text-and-walk academic community claim that most urban cities feature a population familiar with texting while walking. Suburban cities are more likely to face community-wide problems like texting while driving [link]. Much of SXSW is spent ‘networking’ and looking for the most relevant show / club / party to crash. The text-and-walk is the most efficient way to get to where you need to go without losing contact with ur bros who have ‘V I P access’ to the most important parties/events/showcases.’ All types of bros texting and walking Even non-bros texted and walked (the streets of downtown Austin seem relevant and meaningful) Do bros text and walk in all relevant cities? Did college campuses already adopt the text-and-walk? Who invented texting and walking? Is texting while walking more relevant at SXSW? Is ur feces more relevant when u poop at a SXSW event? Is SXSW ‘overrated bullshit’? Are memes from SXSW better than memes from any other era of history? Should I start a viral meme blog called ‘bros who are texting and walking . tumblr . com’? Has texting and walking already ‘gone mainstream’? Will texting and walking have an art installation at the Guggenheim? Is this meme as worthless as something like ‘people who go shopping use carts’? What do u use to network + travel with ur bros? Should parents recommend ‘texting and walking’ as a safe alternative to texting and driving? Is it more alt to text from a modern smart phone or from a vintage cell phone? Is it unfair to assume that they were texting because they might have been using sweet app / Google Maps? |
New York Times uses the term / genre ‘chillwave.’ Posted: 22 Mar 2010 11:39 AM PDT In 2k10, the genre of ‘chillwave’ has evolved into the most coverable post-indie genre in the history of the modern world. After being written about by the Wall Street journal, the New York Times dumped the term into their database of words/articles when describing the most relevant acts to see at SXSW. In their brief blurb, it seems like they are trying to deliver complex layers of commentary on the state of indie music, the quality of chillwave, and trend adoption. Some of [SXSW's] most packed shows were by leaders of a much-blogged microtrend variously known as glo-fi and chillwave: Neon Indian, Washed Out, Small Black, Memory Tapes, Toro y Moi. They're solo acts or minimal bands, often with a laptop at their core, and they trade on memories of electropop from the 1980s, with bouncing, blipping dance-music hooks (and often weaker lead voices). It's recession-era music: low-budget and danceable. Do chillwave lead singers have bad voices? Is chillwave a ‘microtrend’ or an ‘emerging mainstream trend’? Is chill wave recession-era music? Is ur life low-budget and danceable? Is the NYTimes authentic, or do they just harvest content from blogs? Are blogs more authentic than the NY Times? Will people who read newspapers made out of paper finally find out about chillwave? Does writing for the blog section of a newspaper’s website make u a more authentic writer than a blogger blogging for a blog? Is chillwave the new ‘indie’? |
MGMT album ‘Congratulations’ leaks, band forced to stream it 4 free on their website Posted: 22 Mar 2010 08:49 AM PDT MGMT’s globally anticipated album Congrats, Yall has finally leaked. After it leaked, they were forced to offer a ‘full album stream’ on their website. Can’t believe another 2k10 heavy hitter finally arrived. It seems like after this subpar product, MGMT might become the scapegoat of the mainstream indie rock era. A band who we can proudly say we turned our back on in order to stay authentic. Have u listened? Does the album ’suck’? Do u ‘get’ the album? Is this the biggest 2nd album flop in the history of indie buzzband maturation processes? Will Pitchfork ‘pan’ the fuck out of this album since they provided no evidence that they might actually recover from this ‘monumental disaster’? Did MGMT ruin their opportunity? Do we not ‘get’ MGMT? Have u google for “MGMT + Rapidshare” or “MGMT + megaupload” yet? Is the album leak more exciting than the official album release since it could happen any time, sorta like terrorism/natural disasters? |
Is Animal Collective breaking up? Posted: 22 Mar 2010 08:17 AM PDT In a recent interview, Panda Bear claims that the Animal Collective Band is on hiatus after enduring such a rigorous touring schedule. He is ‘focusing on his own shit’ for a while, and also says that there are times when it seemed like the band was ‘done.’ Although it’s common for bands to take breaks between tours, Panda Bear isn’t too sure about the future of the Baltimore-based band. “There have been times in the past when I’ve thought we were done,” he said. “So I don’t know, this could be it. I don’t expect it to be, I should say, but you never know.” Damn. Seems like a heavy quote. Like a bro who has ‘been thru hell and back.’ Wonder if they are happy they stuck together. Wonder if the band still wants to be together, or if they understand that they have to stay in the band to make money by capitalizing on their brand. Wonder if Panda Bear hiatus will be sorta like Deakin hiatus, where every1 just keeps asking ‘why?’ Wonder if Deakin will come back when Panda Bear leaves, leading to tons of rumors that ‘Deakin and Panda Bear don’t get along’. Did Panda Bear make a mistake by saying this on the record? If his new album TOMBOY is mediocre, will he just get ‘bombarded’ with questions about AnCo’s future? Wonder if AnCo is already broken up, but we just don’t realize it. Wonder if Panda Bear was ashamed of the Guggenheim performance, or if he thought it was chill. Is this a ‘non-story’ and anco are just chill bros who can get back 2gether when ever they want? Does AnCo have a social responsibility to high level music fans to create relevant albums whether they want 2 or not? Which 2 members of AnCo are the least chill creatively and personally? What is ur anCo breakup theory? |
Some SXSW venue creates a ’snarky’ sign 2 repel bloggers Posted: 21 Mar 2010 06:55 PM PDT In an age where every one has a blog and every1 thinks they deserve 2 be ‘V.I.P.’ / ‘on the list’ at every relevant concert, the duties of event management companies have become more complex and tedious than ever before. Every blog claims to be relevant, due to the number of hits they get, or due to the alleged ‘high level’/income/age range quality of the blog’s readers. This sign seems like it is trying to ‘get the attention’ of the internet through the collective blogospherian voice. It questions the journalistic voice of bloggers in an era where the blogosphere / twittersphere is the first line of tastemakery. In a way, we are all bloggers. In a way, we all deserve 2 be inside a relevant club. In a way, we are all already inside the most relevant club in the world: Life. Not sure if they should have branded their ‘club’ in the background so that they could have gone viral with this site. Sorta seems like this might be the ‘blogger meme of SXSW 2010.’ Not sure if this was directed at music bloggers or tech bro bloggers? Have u ever been stuck outside a venue, then claimed u wrote / took photos for Pitchfork? Have u ever heard a bro try to ‘promote’ his blog? What do u do when u can’t get into venues? Is this meme trying 2 hard? Are bloggers real writers? Should I stop blogging and start writing on poster boards? Is SXSW full of ‘fucking ass holes’ from every pseudo-industry in the Western World? |
