Animal Collective sells conceptual poster to authentic fans for $140

Posted: 23 Feb 2010 07:47 PM PST

, a popular indie band is selling a poster for $140. The poster is marketed as a ‘high level piece of art’, similar to how people in screen printing classes treat their prints. The print is the same product packaging that was featured on the Animal Crack Box, basically the life work of the band packaged conceptually to make mad bank.

The store describes the print / doodles as being ‘genius’:

The one drawback to the Animal Crack Box art is that, when folded around the LP box, some of Jon Vermilyea’s amazing illustrations are obscured in places — the corners and folds of the box hide some pretty genius drawings. So we decided to rectify the situation by having a print made of the full artwork. Rather than do this quick and dirty, we worked with Axelle to make these prints as high quality as possible. What can we say? We like quality.

Screenprinted in four colors to match the outer slipcase of the Animal Crack Box. Limited edition of 150 prints on high quality, all-cotton Coventry Rag 335 gsm paper. The printed area measures 18 x 35″; the full sheet measures 20 x 37″. Copies are signed and numbered by Jon Vermilyea and SEEN. Suitable for framing (PLEASE don’t simply tack this to your wall!).

As you can tell in their product description, this is not ‘just another poster’ that you can tack on your wall. This is a work of art, worthy of mounting/framing. AnCo is trying to break free from the Bob Marley poster demographic.

As you can see, there are tons of doodles on this print. There is even a Panda Bear, which we assume is a metaphor for Noah Lennox. There is also a bro creature playing a guitar.

We cannot confirm that this is a snake/dragon.

Is AnCo exploiting their fans by selling an expensive poster, or is this type of ‘merch’ the type of product that ‘gets ur fan base pumped’?
Do u want this in ur college dorm room, or will u stick 2 a Beatles Abbey Road poster?
Are yall pissed that this poster isn’t free for download like their MPP leak was free for download?
Is music worth paying for?
Is ‘merch’ worth paying for?
Is this the ultimate AnCo fan cum rag?

Vampire Weekend keyboardist ‘comes out’, becomes part of Alt Celeb Power Gay Mafia

Posted: 23 Feb 2010 12:21 PM PST

Vampire Weekend keyboardist Rostam Batmanglij has confirmed to to Out magazine that he is a homosexual, also known as ‘gay’ to the Middle America. While modern indie and alt music fans are ’supportive’ of homosexuals, extreme conspiracy theorists wonder if he is not actually a homosexual, but was forced by his PR Agent to ‘come out’ to generate press after Vampire Weekend’s #1 hit album Contra. Rostam also launched a ‘tumblr blog‘ of his life.

Rostam joins Edward Droste and as two of the most influential ‘power gay’ alternative celebrities.

Kele Okereke of Bloc Party is also a confirmed homosexual.

In addition, both members of the XX, Romy Madley Croft & Oliver “Ollie” Sim are rumored to be ‘openly homosexual’ but don’t ‘use it’ as a PR tool [via being 'all about the music'].

wonder if the XX wants to be ‘power gays’

Will the gay indie mafia ‘take over’ the alt scene in the 2k10 decade?
Are alt music websites ‘pissed’ that they didn’t get the ‘outing’ cover story?

Was Lance Bass the ultimate ‘outing’ in the history of the world?

Is Vampy Weekend gonna be ‘too gay’ 4 yall now?

R u supportive of indie celebs ‘coming out’?
Are indie/alt websites allowed to talk about the sexuality of artists, or will they just make a ‘generic’ supportive statement in order to stay in the ‘good graces’ of Vampy Weekend?
Worried that alt celeb sexual gossip might be ’stooping too low’, but important to ‘get in on the meme’ 4 the sake of the fan.

Who is cuter, Rostam or David Archuletta?

Who else is on yalls indie gaydar?

Pitchfork ‘creams’ over the new Joanna Newsom, gives her 9.2

Posted: 23 Feb 2010 10:45 AM PST

Many music critics and internet music experts are left ’scratching their heads’ as Joanna Newsom’s new album Have One on Me, Yall! was given a 9.2 by popular criticism website Pitchfork Media.   We have not obtained a copy of the leak because it is 3 hours of music and takes up close to 200 MB on our server hard drive.  It seems difficult to believe that some one can churn out 180 minutes of quality music at a 9.2 rate, when the traditional 9.0+ album usually lasts less than 60 minutes.

Is this score ‘the greatest accomplishment’ in Pitchfork history, or do you agree with conspiracy theorists who call it an Equal Opportunity Review, meaning that a select group of women ‘have it easier’ on the Pitchfork scale.

Some fans are worried that she has ’slipped’ since her 2006 album, since she gave up 0.2 points.

Was Feist’s album ‘overrated’?

Are men naturally better at music than women?
Is Joanna Newsom a talented woman?
Does Joanna Newsom remind you of some weird lady at a Renaissance Fair?

Do we want to ‘escape’ to the Renaissance era, back when times are simpler and we just watched a lady play a harp for 3 hours?

Is the future of ternative music?

Is Joanna Newsom’s album relevant/worth consuming?

Alt Photographer Terry Richardson chills with Kobe Bryant

Posted: 23 Feb 2010 10:10 AM PST

Kobe Bryant is an NBA player for the Los Angeles Lakers was formerly accused of raping a woman in Colorado. Since he ‘overcame’ that public relations disaster, he won some championships, and every one forgot about it, since his ‘victim’ was possibly just a lying little spoiled white broad. In addition, he had a bitter breakup with his teammate Shaquille O’Neal, and they gave up the opportunity to build a dynasty so that they could be ‘alpha dog.

Terry Richardson steps out of his comfort zone to chill with Kobe, since he usually takes ‘edgy’ pix of rock stars and nude women. He probably should have made Kobe do some sweet 360 dunks, utilizing the ‘action shot’ style of photography.

Terry Richardson was hired to photography Kobe Bryant for the cover of GQ, a men’s magazine. We can only assume that the featured article ‘glorifies’ the work ethic of Kobe Bryant, makes a few Michael Jordan references, and features some of Kobe Bryant’s hollow, generic, passionate statements.

Seems like he got a sweet souvenir that he can sell on eBay.

Can Tiger Woods hire Terry Richardson to do a ‘raw’ styled photoshoot to repair his image?
Will the Lakers repeat as NBA Champions?
Is Kobe Bryant the ‘winner’ of the Kobe vs. Shaq feud?

Stereogum, the largest mp3/music blog in the entire world ‘re-designs’

Posted: 23 Feb 2010 09:58 AM PST

Stereogum is widely branded as the biggest mp3 blog in the world. The site recently launched a ‘redesign’ with what we can assume are 3 key goals

  • get mad hits/click thrus
  • seem legit
  • grow from being ‘just a blog’ to a pitchfork style non-blog music site

Site fans are divided on whether or not the site looks better, or if it just looks ‘forgettable’ in an overdesigned way. In addition, the logo has been called ‘generic’ by a few anonymous web design experts.

Do yall think all music blogs should ‘redesign’ or do they need 2 stay true to their initial crappy blog design roots?
Should HIPSTER RUNOFF redesign, or is it already designed ‘perfectly’?
What is perfect web design?
What does the perfect MP3 blog look like?
a) Pitchfork
b) HRO
c) GVB
d) gawker
e) pandora
f) last.fm
g) Stereogum
h) hypemachine
i) choose.ur.own.response

Angsty figure skating couple ice dances to Linkin Park at Winter Olympics

Posted: 23 Feb 2010 06:20 AM PST

Last night at the Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver Canada, some angsty couple from Great Britain skated to the hit song “Crawling” by . has been branded as a band that teens can turn to when no one understand their pain. The band creates a synergistic mix of rap and rock that relays deep messages to tweens and teens.

In the song “Crawling” they offer a lyrical and textural soundscape upon which an interpretive skate dance can be performed:

crawling in my skin
these wounds they will not heal
fear is how I fall
confusing what is real

there’s something inside me that pulls beneath the surface
consuming/confusing
this lack of self-control I fear is never ending
controlling/I can’t seem

to find myself again
my walls are closing in
(without a sense of confidence and I’m convinced that there’s just too much pressure to take)
I’ve felt this way before
so insecure

Wonder if “Crawling” is one of the best songs of the past century. Sorta just wanna get blazed and get in touch with my pain.

The couple is named Sinead and John Kerr. The are getting ‘mad coverage’ because they are siblings, and their dance moves get sexual and passionate.

Maybe they picked because there is some sort of ‘untamed darkness’ within them.

Wonder if figure skating ‘peaked’ a long time ago, back when competitors would do whatever it took 2 win.

Maybe is the only band who can understand the pain, sacrifice, and misunderstanding associated with figure skaters.
What is the most authentic Olympic event?
What music would yall figure sk8 2?
