HIPSTER RUNOFF

HIPSTER RUNOFF

Robert DeNiro stars in sequel to ‘Taxi Driver.’

One of indie cinema’s most revolutionary films was Taxi Driver, starring Robert De Niro. Even though he has aged, he has stayed relevant by starring in some of the most cutting edge modern indie and mainstream films of all time.  In his new film Little Fockers, he seems to take on a complex role with other revolutionary actors like Harvey Keitel, Owen Wilson, and .  Stiller and Wilson previously shared the screen in the hit film The Royal Tenenbams.

De Niro was Travis Bickle in Taxi Driver.  As you can see, he used to be one of the iconic ’societal misfits’ in the history of human metaphors.

De Niro continues to take cinema to the next level with cutting edge roles.  This movie seems to be some sort of commentary on a prisoner in his pajamas at Guantanamo Bay getting his ‘terrorist ass’ interrogated by a US Military Officer.

Ensemble comedies featuring old stars of in zany roles have established themselves as legitimate cash cows in the modern world.  Star of ‘The Graduate’ Dustin Hoffman even came out of retirement for the third film in the Focker Taxi Driver franchise.

Are and Robert De Niro the most important modern buddy comedy actors of all time?

We cannot confirm that Martin Scorcese is the director of this hit film.

Is the greatest alternative comedian of all time?

Did invent the ‘web short’ before internet video web streaming even existed?
Is Robert De Niro a ‘fucking disgrace’?

Photograph of Animal Collective ‘Before They Were Famous / Relevant’ Emerges.

This photo of AnCo, also known as the popular band Animal Collective has emerged on the internet. The photograph features Avey Tare (Dave Portner), some random bro, Panda Bear (Noah Lennox), and Deakin / Deacon (Josh Dibb). We can see that they used to be ‘just like you’ when you were going through your formative alternative stage, wearing what seem to be low cost and/or thrift store tshirts.

It is interesting to note that Avey Tare has stayed loyal to his bucket hat, even though he is more rich and famous, and probably could wear more expensive hats.

What do you think about their brand now & then? Have they transformed into relevant alternative celebrities, or do they look like the same ppl they used to be?

10 years ago, would u guess that 3 of these humans would become some of the most important trendsetters in the history of post-indie rock?
Do the ‘weirdest’ ppl in high school end up becoming the most successful?

Is Vampire Weekend’s new video the ultimate mainstream meme?

Posted: 21 Feb 2010 12:29 PM PST

Vampire Weekend’s new video for “Giving Up The Gun” appears to have been one of the most strategic mindie memes of the mainstream indie era. The song “Giving Up The Gun” is possibly the most ‘perfectly crafted pop song’ on Vampy Weekend’s hit album Contra. I think the main goal of this video is to familiarize mainstreamers with the brand of the band so that they can associate faces with the music.  The video features tons of meaningful panning shots of members of the band singing/playing their instruments.

This is a traditional video, and even features the classic shot of the band ‘walking into a conceptual space’ in slow motion.

The most controversial part of this video was the inclusion of popular tween pop star Joe Jonas. Many assume that Vampire Weekend is attempting to appeal to mainstream tween fans who are looking to enter the post-tween era of their lives’.

We can only assume that the agent wants to generate ‘twitter buzz’ from tweens who point other tweens to the Vampy Weekend video.  The Jonas Brother looks like he is attempting to imitate Richie Tenenbaum.

In addition, to appeal to the ‘authentic rap’ fans, they included RZA in the video, popular producer for the Wu Tang Clan. I think his inclusion was probably to ensure that music bloggers ’still thought this video was kewl and fun.’

The popular rapper Lil Jon was in this video, too. He seems like some1 who was probably paid mad bank to be in this video, or possibly he owed some one a favor for ‘covering up a murder’ or something.  I am not sure if he is still a relevant rapper / meme.

Jake Gyllenhaal has been in the news lately since many people think he used steroids / performance enhancing drugs to bulk up for the upcoming film Prince of Persia. We are unsure if he is supposed to appeal to the Brokeback homosexual demographic or the Donnie Darko demographic.

Do yall like Vampire Weekend’s new video?
Do u feel like this video was made 4 u, or for a mainstream tween / African American teen?
Will Jay Z ‘endorse’ Vampy Weeks like he endorsed Grizzly Bear?
Do yall like memes that were crafted for ’sick coverage’ from all types of cultural websites?
