What’s up guys. This is Mike.. Go ahead and call me MikeBro in honor of Carles the #1 altbro of all time. haha. Go ahead, give me shit cause I’m not him, but give me a little bit of room to grow, too. Sure no one can match Carleses style, but I think if you guys keep coming back, you’ll start to open up to new ideas and words, and just give me a chance to shine. Maybe I need to make a new dotcom for this site, but thats something we can chat about later.. Right now, I have the keys to the badboy, so lets just buckle our seatbelts and take it for a wild ride….
So you wanna know more about me? If I told you, I’d have to kill you (note: if you do not like sarcasm and sarcastic writing, please go find another place to go read)
Let’s quit the bullshit, and get straight to some hardcore blogging. Instead of telling you my interests, I’m gonna go ahead and just post my Albums of the Decade List. It’ll probably tell you a lot more about me. Some stuff, you’ll have in common with me. Other stuff, you won’t necesarely agree with me, but at the same time, i just want to open up your mind and get you to think outside of the box.
Rob’s Top 15 Albums of the Decade by Mike (aka MikeBro)
#15 Animal Collective – Merriweather post Pavillion I know you guys are gonna rail me for this one cause it came out this year…but c’mon… you have got to be freaking kidding me. This is some real good shit. Trippy as hell..but still.. gotta give the boys props for making an epic concept banger album. That video for “My Girls” is really trippy. Gonna embed here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zol2MJf6XNE This shit was awesome, and I even saw them live when they came through Florida. Had to buy tickets like 2 weeks in advance, but that shit was worth it. Got high as hell, and needless to say–fucking awesome. Really trippy album art too. check it: whoooa. haha. is it moving or is that just my screen? Give it up for Panda Bear and the other animals for holding it down hard in the 2000s. Don’t ever let any one tell you what music is–because these guys keep redefining it.
#14 OutKast – Stankonia can’t stop singin “I’m sorry miss Jackson (woooo!) I am forreaaalll.” Every one used to be jamming out to that shit before “Hey Ya” came out. Seriously some good stuff. Really creative guys, even outside of music. A lot of people say that black rappers and singers just sing about hood stuff, but these guys came hard to deliver some artsy stuff.
#13 haha… defanately not gonna put an unlucky #13 slot on this one… gotta have a little bit of good luck
#12 Radiohead – In Rainbows You gotta vote for this one over ‘Kid A’ because it was for free! haha… call me a cheapskate, but i don’t give a shit. Gotta get the most out of my dollar, especially in the recession. This is probably radiohead at their best, because they did all the trippy ambient stuff and had some really good rock songs. Thom is a genius (Thom Yorke, that is. Haha. My first blog and I already act like I’m friends with rock stars). But cmon man…these guys are marketing geniuses. Instead of having a PR budget, they just let the fans use the internet to tell eachother what was up…and the rest… is history.
#11 The Shins – Chutes Too Narrow This was some really chill acoustic shit, mixed with rock noises. It was back when indie music could be funky and fun. Now every one is being all serious. Cmon guys! lighten up! let’s have fun and dance again… It’d be cool to have a Woodstock of Indie music just to see how it would change the scene. I’ll bet a lot of bands would get back to basics to say the least… food for thought.
#10 [Couldnt find a picture] Fleet Foxes – Fleet Foxes These guys have really pretty voices. Not afraid to say that, even though I am a dude, too. It’s cool how much talent is out there, and that artists can get paid for what they are good at. Really love to chill out to this one and do some outdoor shit. It’s really cool to take your iPod and then go do something in nature to think.
#9 Jay-Z – The Black Album Jigga what? haha. give it up to the jigga man comin in with some of the best rap hip hop made this decade…Probably this century. A lot of people listen to rap justbecause they think it makes them seem cool, but this is good stuff because it is an artform, too, not like most rap. Really appreciate this genuinely.
#8 Justin Timberlake – FutureSex/LoveSounds Man I used to make so much fun of this curly haired bitch back when he was in NSYNC, but now… I put this shit on any playlist that I plan on using while I’m fucking a girl (or at least trying to…haha…) This guy makes stuff that really gets your feet tappin. Not afraid to say that I like pop music and that i listen to this dude. The guy is a pimp and I’ll bet he gets more pussy than Wilt Chaimberlain. Mad props to my man JT for all of his successes (in and out of the bed room). Gagagagitchyafreakon brutha!
#7 M.I.A. – Kala I gotta have a chick representin’ on this top albums list, so leave it up to my main gal Maya to represent HARD. I remember jamming the fuck out to ‘Paper Planes’, turning that shit up in my room and dropping all kinds of fucking gun shots. Who would have thought a few gun shot noises could be so controversial? Man…Gotta give it up to my girl. Big ups, big ups. She really is a creative chick, no matter what the haters say.
#6 Deerhunter – Microcastle If you guys want indie rock–and I really mean ROCK–you gotta pick up this album. A lot of people have told me ‘you gotta check out Sonic Youth’. I tried to listen to them, but this is a better version of sonic youth. trust me… your ears won’t be deceiving you any time soon if you buy this CD. Bradford Cox is like an indier Thom Yorke.
#7 Vampire Weekend – Vampire Weekend So what? I like vampire weekend… shoot me. haha. no don’t shoot me! it’s just music. You guys need to start liking stuff cause its good, not because you are trying to be some one that you’re not. “A-Punk” is a song that gets me pumped up before I have a flag-football game on a team that i’m on with a couple of the guys from work. A lot of the guys rag on me for not jamming out to rap, but cmon…this shit is good. Here is a clip of the song (ignore the hipsters in the video if you can)
Give it up for Ezra and the boys.
#6 The Strokes – Is This It Man its so crazy that this came out in 2001–definately one of the best years of my life (except for the crazy gf–don’t ask…long story.). Julian and the Boys came out with a strong debut, but everything after that kinda sucked to be honest. Hope those guys get back on track, because one day we will talk about them on the same level as The Stones, the Beatles, and all the other rock Gods. Lets go guys! Get back in the studio! (haha like they even read this blog). These guys don’t just look like a band; they are actually a very good one.
#5 Lady Gaga – The Fame This girl is for real. I know what you guys are saying: she’s all smoke and mirrors. But you dont realize a pop icon when you see one even if you were looking in the mirror. Really catchy stuff, and she’s driven. She writes all of her own stuff, which you have to give her props for.
#4 Daft Punk – Discovery I sure bumped the fuck out of this shit HARD! I remember turning this up and jamming out with the windows down in my Toyota (no–not a Prius. Just a 1989 Camry). This is really some good techno–not just the usual rave bullshit. Like there’s a lot of subtle pop elements that some people don’t even know that are they are there. It’s weird how so many people hear different stuff when they jam out to music, but some people listen to have fun and other people listen to appreciate it. I’m a little bit of both. Let’s show these robots a little bit of myspace love and send them a friend request… cool
#3 Sufjan Stevens – Illinois This is some good stuff, man. It’s a no brainer–’Chicago’ was the #1 song on my computer (yes… i have had the same laptop for the past 9 years… lol. and NO I won’t be switching to a Mac any time soon you effing hipsters). This stuff is really chill and beautiful at the same time. Like orchestra music mixed with indie–that’s what I respect. When different genres collide to make something beautiful.
Here’s a pic of Sufjan looking like a pimp baller.
#2 Arcade Fire – Funeral Definitely doesn’t get much better than this one… Indie rock definitely peaked around here…but let’s get serious… albums like this only come around once a decade. Fortunately, I was around for this one. We’ll see if I’m around for another great album next decade (Let’s just say I need to make a few diet modifications…) Anyways, these Canadian indie rockers shown us all how it needs to be done for decades to come… drumroll please… and now the number one album of the decade acording to Rob
#1 Jack Johnson – Brushfire Fairy Tales Honestly, this is the best album of the decade. You can’t tell me that shit gets more chill than this. Just an average joe and his guitar, singing songs about life. Sure, some stuff is cooler or has trippier noises, but that’s not what I’m all about. Honest to goodness music at its finest. I know you guys can hate on me–but as long as I’m me, none of that matters. I’m an open guy who is down for anything and just likes a cold beer–so what–me and millions of other people. Let’s stop letting music divide us, and start celebrating with music for once. If every one who made this blog made a top 10 list, no ones would match with any one elses. That’s just the way it is, but I consider it a good thing that we can all be individuals.

Hey tweeple… Not sure if this blog is for me any more. Had a good run, but maybe this is it. Plenty of other alt sites out there to choose from. Dropped some sweet memes, made some cool new internet friends, but maybe my future is in ‘real life’ instead of the internet.
